If you snooze we all lose...so please register early! A minimum number of participants is required in order to offer trips and classes. Early registration will ensure that your seat is reserved and that you won’t miss out due to low registration. Programs and trips take coordination and planning. The sooner we know how many to expect, the better the planning. Deadlines are generally one week prior to the first class/trip unless otherwise noted, however, more notice is preferred. Most trips depart from the Standish Municipal Center upper parking lot, unless otherwise stated. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to board the bus. Times listed are “pull out of the parking lot” times. Tourist for a Day! Experience Maine’s natural beauty along coastal route 1 and become a tourist in our own backyard. Two separate trips will bring us both north and south and we’ll have time for lunch at a local restaurant, walking or enjoying views from a park bench, meandering through shops and anything else that will add to our adventure. The best part about being a tourist is not having an agenda! Our destination to the north is Camden and to the south is Ogunquit. PARKS & RECREATION NEEDS ASSESSMENT & PLANNING FINAL REPORT
33
We are pleased to share with you the 2019 Parks & Recreation Needs Assessment and Planning Final Report as presented by the University of New Hampshire Department of Recreation Management and Policy. This final report is available for your review at www.standishrec.com or receive a paper copy at the Parks & Recreation office. In 2018, the Town of Standish elected to engage in a planning effort to examine parks and recreation needs, with a specific focus on year-round indoor recreation space. Based on the activities associated with this project, including background research, benchmarking, stakeholder focus groups and interviews, and resident household survey, the findings and recommendations are offered for consideration by Standish Parks & Recreation Department. With 10% of Standish households represented in the survey, nearly 8 out 10 respondents moderately or strongly agreed that the Standish community would benefit from a town-supported indoor recreation/community center in Standish (79.4%). In 2006, 92% of survey respondents said that they would “support a Community Center for Standish that would provide programs and facilities for all ages.” The current study asked a more pointed question and found that 89.2% of respondents agreed that “Standish needs a new town-supported indoor recreation center to meet the recreation needs of Standish residents.” Please be on the look out for next steps in the process and please contact Jen DeRice at jderice@standish.org for more information.
