Dear Friends: Thank you for the honor of representing our community in the Maine State House. I’m delighted to provide you this annual report detailing the work I’ve done in Augusta this session on your behalf. The second session of the Legislature began on January 3, 2024, and by the time we adjourned in late April, we voted on more than 600 bills. Using the legislative website: www.legislature.maine.gov, you can see my complete voting record, and access recorded proceedings of the House of Representatives. I’m pleased to serve on the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee, one of the most influential committees in the State House, to advance causes that are important to the people of Buxton and Hollis ranging from lower taxes and funding for energy and fuel assistance, to high-quality public education and shoring up the cost-of-living adjustment for Maine retirees. These are topics that affect all Mainers, but are especially felt here in our community. Working in a bipartisan way, I’ve been proud to work with colleagues across the aisle to deliver on my commitment to a more accountable, and less costly state government. Maine continues to struggle on a number of fronts; seniors are being taxed out of their longtime homes, young Mainers cannot afford to buy a home or start a family, and the high costs of food, fuel, and everything in between is especially difficult for middle- to low income people everywhere. It’s critical we address these crises and deliver on other basic commitments like public education, infrastructure, reforming our child protection system, and others so Maine can again be an affordable place to call our home. Thank you again for the honor and privilege of representing you at our State Capitol. To connect with me or subscribe to regular legislative updates, please email me directly at Nathan.Carlow@legislature.maine.gov, or call my office at (207) 287-1440. Sincerely, Dear Friends: Thank you for trusting me to serve as your voice in the Maine State Legislature. It’s a great honor to represent you and your family in Augusta, and I’m pleased to share this report on my work. As a member of the Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs, a considerable share of my efforts will be focused on a cause close to my heart: securing a brighter future for Maine’s youth. Two years ago, I proudly supported investment in free community college for all Maine students, and I pledge to do so again for all graduates who remain in Maine. This program has been an incredible success; it’s driving impressive growth across the trades including electrical, carpentry, nursing, and many other industries vital to Maine’s economy. I’ve submitted a total of eight bills to be considered during the first regular session of the Legislature, and I’m working closely with colleagues across the political and ideological spectrum to shepherd them through the legislative process. One of these bills is to create a pathway for experienced professionals in the trades to pursue a career teaching industrial arts in Maine schools. These programs are shuttering at alarming rates across Maine, and working with industiral arts educators, the Commissioner of Education, and my colleagues in Augusta, I am hopeful we can rescue this essential curriculum. Additionally, I’ve introduced legislation authorizing the design and production of a ceremonial license plate celebrating the 250 th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and I fully expect Maine to go “all out” in commemorating this milestone birthday of American independence. Many of you have spoken with me about high costs and Maine’s status as the fourth most highly taxed state in the nation. I hear you and it’s true, Maine continues to be an absurdly overpriced place to live and raise a family. Sadly, the Governor’s budget proposal imposes at least five new tax increases on Maine people. At the time of my writing this letter, it’s not certain whether those tax increases will be approved by the Legislature, but I pledge to oppose this outrageously offenseive tax-and-spend agenda in Augusta. In addition to my legislative responsibilities, I’m committed to assisting constituents working with state agencies. If you need help with a pending case or have questions about a legislative matter, please call my office at (207) 287-1440 or write to me directly at Nathan.Carlow@legislature.maine.gov. I care very much about ensuring my votes reflect the best interest of all the members of our community, and I want my constituents to be heard and respected by agencies of state government. Thank you again for trusting me to serve our community in Augusta. Know of my constant prayers for you and your family. Sincerely,

Nathan M. Carlow State Representative
