About the Cover Fall may be the best time of the year to be on Chebeague. Enjoy! About the Calendar The Calendar is published monthly by the Chebeague Island Council. It is available on-line at Chebeague Island News (www. chebeague.org) or www.chebeagueislandcalendar.com and mailed to every occupied residence on the island. The Calendar welcomes submissions from its readers, including letters and thank you notes, but it cannot publish anything that is political in nature, libelous, or obscene. All submissions should include the author’s name and contact information. Without exception, the deadline for submissions is noon on the 20 th day of the month preceding publication. Submissions and ad copy may be mailed (247 South Road), left at the Council office (on 247 South Road) or emailed (cheabeagueislandcouncil@gmail.com) and sent as attachments (.doc; no pdfs) or included in the body of the text. Images and photographs should be sent in a .jpg, .jpeg, or .rtf format. Please do not use the old email address at as this is an inactive account. As a courtesy and space permitting, island nonprofits are given up to a free half page each month to publish their news. Any such submissions exceeding a half page will be charged at the usual rate. All submissions become the property of the Chebeague Island Council, which reserves the right to edit them for length and clarity. Submissions that are not time sensitive may be held until there is enough space to publish them. Additional information about submissions is available at www.chebeagueislandcalendar.com. Advertising rates are as follows: full page, $70, ½ page, $35; ¼ page, $20; 4-line classified, $5; 6 to 8 line classified, $10. Each submission should include the intended publication date, size wanted, and the number of months the ad should run. All ads must be paid for at the time of submission.

Dr. Larson comes to the Wellness Center on the 1 st and 3 rd Friday of the month. You do not need to be a Direct Primary Care patient to be seen. Please call her at 233-2502 to schedule an appointment. She will see urgent care, walk in patients as time allows. She does not accept insurance, including Medicare. If you are not a Direct Primary Care Patient there is a fee of $100.

There was a bit of scrambling to move the food inside and break down the band equipment before the thunderstorm, but a little wind & rain couldn’t stop the HARVEST PARTY! Thanks to all who turned out to join in the fun.

Just the usual great holiday cheer!) RED STUDIO SHOP: Open Saturdays 10am-12pm…Season Grand Finale Saturday, October 7 th ! We’ll be open occasional weekends for holiday shopping. We’ve restocked our EQUIPMENT LOAN CLOSET with many new items, including a new loaner wheelchair and a transfer chair (perfect for trips over on the ferry!) Notes From The Council Happy Fall! The Chebeague Island Council is gearing up for its usual fall offerings. We will hold a Flu Clinic on October 25 from 8:45 -11:15 am. We hope to have a separate COVID clinic later in the fall. Wednesday soup will start on October 18. The Council is here to help. If you or your neighbors need assistance with fuel, groceries, or medications, please let us know. Also, if there is a program or activity that you would like us to organize, give us a call.

HARVEST OPEN HOUSE - OCTOBER 22nd—1PM to 4PM Please join us on Sunday October 22nd for our annual Harvest Open House at the Museum from 1PM to 4PM. This will be your last chance to visit our current exhibit - “Growing Up on Chebeague”. The exhibit opened in 2022 and will soon be coming down! The thousands of people who visited have enjoyed all the photos and arti facts from our past. In 2024 an exciting new exhibit will open. Please help us celebrate “Growing Up on Chebeague”. And of course, refreshments will be served and the Museum Shop will be open – with a 20% off sale!

It is not surprising that Mike Robinson was the first to identify the September Mystery Photo! Frank D. Bennett was the broth

er of Mike’s great grandfather, Will Bennett. The store was located next to Mark McGee’s house on South Road. It closed after Frank died in 1920 at age 41 - leav ing a widow and several children. His store was moved across the road and be came Elliot Hawkes cottage. His widow, Trudy, retired there. She and her second husband, Roger Burrill expanded the cottage and winterized it. Frank Bennett has several living descendants including his grandchildren CIHS members, Syl via Ross, Joyce Burns, Patty Emerson and Theron Hamilton. His great grandchil dren who live on Chebeague include: Kendra McKinnon, Vicki Emery, Jeff Hamil ton, Jason Hamilton, Kim Hamilton, and Gary Ross. Submitted by Donna Damon

Off-season Ticket Prices to go into Effect October 10!

CTC to Purchase 14 Passenger Bus Our buses are a crit ical part of our transportation infra structure, especially as the Island’s popu lation grows. To meet current and future needs, CTC has purchased a new 14-passenger bus. Joining our existing fleet, the new bus will provide a more comfortable and reli able shuttle service to and from our Route One lot, espe cially in the off season. We expect to take delivery early in October. Winter Schedule to start October 13 CTC will once again be implementing our winter schedule from October 13, 2023 through May 19, 2024. This winter schedule eliminates the 10:30pm/10:45pm ferry, and corre sponding bus trips, on Friday and Satur day evenings. This will save CTC over $10,000 in payroll and fuel costs.
