TRANSFER STATION Mechanic Falls Transfer Station
Meet the crew at the Mechanic Falls Transfer Station: Left to right: Dennis Mazurkiewicz, Norman Lowe (Manager), Armand Arsenault & Donald Young.
❖ This year at the Transfer Station, we have been working closely with the DEP to ensure that we are in compliance. Based on our recent Site Inspection they have determined that “Overall the entire site is in good general condition” and that the “facility appeared to be in good shape” with no need to schedule a follow up inspection.
❖ Since the inception of the landfill, the Town has been required by the DEP to test the well water 3 times a year. This year the DEP gave the Town permission to reduce the number of times we are required to test the well water down to two times a year, resulting in a savings of thousands of dollars per year.
❖ Lastly, they have worked with us to clean up the inert pile (consists of glass, bricks, cement blocks, ceramic, etc.) We were given permission to add the contents of the inert pile to the landfill area, saving the eventual need to hire someone to haul it away. Haley Ward, Inc., a technical consulting firm offering a wide range of engineering, environmental and surveying services was hired by the Town to complete a Volume Survey and Cell Plan of our landfill. After completing the survey, Haley Ward has determined that we have approximately another 106 years of useful life with the current landfill.
We continue to do a very good job with recycling which saves us money. The more we recycle, the more we save!
