MSA Club News

two weeks away from a New Year and wrap- ping up a super busy season of trail preparation. We at EMSC are looking forward to a great New Year hopefully with lots of snow locally for our trail system. Trails Just over 400 volunteer hours so far of trail preparation from 18 dedicated member volun- teers! Headed up by Trailmaster Larry we have constructed four new bridges, reinforced and slightly relocated two others, had two new trail reroutes to take care of on top of walking clear- ing and brushing a little over 80 miles of trail!

our club sold just around 1,000 tickets. Thank you to our members that sell the tickets and purchase the tickets and also thank you to The Eddington Store and G&M Family Market for having kiosks available to sell tickets 300 Club. Of the 300 available tickets there is approxi- mately 40 unsold, so there is an opportunity to get in on the next four monthly drawings drawn at our regular club meetings. Upcoming we hope to have our dinner auc- tion and possibly a cornhole tournament at the clubhouse. check out Facebook or website for updates on these events. We would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! Please do your snow dance and hope for cold and white stuff so the trails open soon! Think Snow! Troy G, Trail Grunt Hi to all, Christmas is here and Quadcounty SC has a white Christmas but not enough to even think about grooming. Hopefully, it won’t be a repeat of last year with no snow till February. We have groomed by Christmas but average is second week of January, so don’t get dis- couraged yet. Just do a snow dance to get the weather pattern to change. Our breakfast attendance has been low but with Holidays and weather that is expected. Our biggest money builder, the Calendar Raf- fle is going to start in February and go through March and April. $20 gets you in drawing for all three months and your name stays in even if you get drawn. Prize money is bigger and calendars are on sale now and are selling fast. If interested message on facebook or call 738-3400. Quadcounty SC is leasing a new to us groomer, this will update our 20 year old machine and we can consolidate our equip- ment to streamline the fleet. It should be in Quadcounty land next week. Quadcounty has done a lot of brushing, bush hogging, signing and bridge repair with a lot left to do when we can get into the wetter areas, please help when you can. The regular team of Retirees have done a tremendous job but notice how the job goes so much nicer when younger members help out! Your slow typing reporter, Kevin By now the trails are in shape for riders from all over. Some will wonder what prep was needed to get them in this fine condition. Dealing with summer overgrowth is no small task and if not addressed yearly, the trails become narrower and narrower. Groomers cannot work the full width of the trail and rid- ers are forced to face oncoming traffic with lit- tle room to maneuver. The solution is cutting back the growth. at. What would take weeks to achieve with a crew of chain saw volunteers is completed in a day. Don’t think for a movement that the job of a groomer is simply enjoying a coffee com- fortably occupying a seat while a drag works the midwinter snow.

EASTERN REGION

CLIFTON AREA sc Clifton, ME Welcome to the New Year Everyone!

Thanks for your support. Bob Ludwig, Secretary raludwig184@gmail.com

All of us at CASC home you all had a won- derful holiday and that you enjoyed them with family and friends while staying safe. CASC members met on the 2nd of Jan for our first meeting of 2022. At this meeting we discussed our Spring Dinner/Dance/Auctions event. We are planning this event for Feb.26 th at the Penobscot County Conservation Club. This is a major fund-raiser for us and one we couldn’t hold last year due to the Covid virus. With the purchase of our new storage building, we need to replenish our savings account, and this event will help with that. We are asking for donations from businesses and anyone else that would like to be involved. Please contact Nancy at 843-7270 to donate items or food. While you are at it, mark your calendar for Feb. 26 th and come join us. There has been some work done on the trail a by-pass near the Yawaka Rd. The trail was rough in spots and now it has been cleared and ready for snow. There is also a trail that some culvert work will be done on, if it hasn’t been already. A section of the road floods above the culvert when there is high water, and we sure have had a lot of rain this year to keep it high. Please be cautious if you are out riding as there is water in many places and at this point, (end of Dec.) it hasn’t frozen hard yet. Snow is in the forecast at this point and colder weather is also predicted, so stay safe. A few more extras have been done to the storage building. Motion lights will be in place on the ends of it so when the groomers are coming in and out, they can see well. Shelves have been installed and the trail equipment, signs and other items have been put in place. Thanks to all members who have worked so hard to get the trails ready, the building set and now are working to get the fund-raising event organized. Please ride safe and stay healthy everyone. Until February, The Directors, Officers and members of CASC https://sites.google.com/site shirleybogtrailbusters Like us on Facebook Shirley Bog Trail Busters. Email us: ShirleyBogTrailBusters@gmail.com Just a little snow in December to tease us snowmobilers. But nothing to sled on. However, we were lucky that the elf’s were busy on our trails... We had a record turnout for our trail day with 9 members showing up to work all day. We did a great job on the by-pass of the drive- way off the North Road. Later we went to the Mayhew Road and used telephone poles to widen that bridge for grooming. Lindy Arey hauled the poles and Mike Theriault donated the poles. We now will be able to groom the Mayhew Road to the CCC Road and out west on the CCC Road to ITS86. Later in the month Norm Beckwith did a great job pulling out lots of stumps and smooth out the driveway section of the By Pass trail with Roger supervising. We also got out to clear the By Pass Trail to CC Road of blow downs. The CCC Road and Clouse Allen Road will be plowed this season, therefore no snowmobiling on plowed roads. Meantime think, pray or do a special dance for snow!! and snow!! Debi Lynne Baker Secretary SHIRLEY BOG TRAIL BUSTERS INC. Shirley, ME

PAUL BUNYAN sc Bangor, ME

All of us at the PBSC hope that this update finds you well in the New Year, and that you had a very Merry Christmas as well! At the time of this update, our season still hasn’t begun, but at least we do have a little bit of white stuff on the ground and are seeing some cold enough weather to get the ground firmed up! Because of how wet the end of fall was, some of our trail work has not been able to be completed, so we are optimistic that the cold weather will stay so we can finish things off with solid frozen ground and have a good trail system ready for all of you once snow really flies! We are still trying to get out to do trail work, as weather, and volunteer availability per- mits. Feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or drop us a line at paulbunyanscbangor@ hotmail.com for details on when and where we will be working, as we’d love to include anyone who is interested in helping out! Vol- unteers are ALWAYS welcome and VERY MUCH appreciated, many hands make light work!! We’re continuing to recognize some of our business members throughout this season, with the spotlight on Darling’s this month! The amount of support that Darling’s gives back to the local community is incredible, and we are honored to be part of that! If you’re in need of vehicle repairs or replacement, or even insurance, please reach out to Darling’s if you are able to, and support an organization that is a great support to us!! We generally hold our meetings on the second Wednesday of each month during the season, and would love to have anyone who is interested join us! We usually post meeting information on our Facebook page ahead of time, but feel free to email or message us on Facebook with any questions! Sincerely, Paul Phillips - President EBEEMEE sc Brownville, ME Hello fellow Snowmobilers! How about something a little different this month? I know I have mentioned Al Van Knowe many times as he was a key figure up here in Ebeemee. There are many of us who learned our way around the woods up here from Al. And there are those of us that referred to him as “Chief Sagamore”. The name of his camp was Sagamore’s Wander Inn. Third place in on Ebeemee Lake Road. The good old days. Al’s passion was snowmobiling. I believe that was the main reason he chose this beauti- ful area to recreate in. Part of that passion was the Ebeemee Snowmobile Club which was formed in the mid 70’s by a core group that had the same passion. I want to thank all of those came before us and who had the vision. Without it, Ebeemee Snowmobile Club just wouldn’t be! Now onto Al… Al was key to that core group. Al started snowmobiling in the area in 1972 after hunting up here since the late 50’s. He went to work making trails or improving what existed. He spread the word to friends and family and lo and behold, we formed friendships that would stand the test of time. We started referring to our gang as the Sagamore Wanderers! Just a bunch of snowmobile lovers that got together to explore and ride every weekend and at the end of the ride shared many potluck dinners and stories. I’m sure many of you share the

We just had our club Christmas party and meeting complete with a pizza party and a gift exchange with over 30 people. Previously we talked about the powerhead saw that mounts on our Tucker. It tackles trimming with a vengeance. The unit must be skillfully aimed among trees and rocks to take just what is needed without hitting something immovable. When all goes right, as it usually does with operator Tony C., the wood flies, and everything in its path falls. Imagine sitting feet away from 6 high speed table saw blades powered by a large diesel engine as they vio- lently eat through whatever they are aimed
