Snowmobiling Season About to Begin!

HASLETT, MI, Octo- ber 2, 2020: The weather forecasters are pointing towards a great snowy, cold winter for 2020-2021 in most of North Amer- ica. The Old Farmer’s Almanac, in addition to other weather aficiona- dos are forecasting above average snow fall, cold weather, and generally a great snowmobiling season. (They didn’t use those exact words, but I knew what they meant!) Even though the big Fall snowmobile shows have been cancelled, there have been many great events held throughout the snowbelt. The snow- mobile events that have been held have reported excellent crowds (prac- ticing safe distancing and wearing of masks), high enthusiasm, and strength in sales of snowmobiles The Hall of Fame Committee was privileged to induct Jerry Major from the Oxford Rock- odundee Riders Snowmobile Club, Harvey Williams from the North Anson Snowmobile Club, Vernon “Barney” Robichaud from the Mattawamkeag Road Runners and Warren Emery from the Mollyockett Sports-

as well as parts, acces- sories, and other service items. Following the excellent sales season that was established by the ATV/ UTV industry, the Boating Industry, and the Recre- ational Vehicle Industry, we are optimistic that sales and use of snow- mobiles will be strong. The snowmobile clubs and associations/federa- tions are currently clear- ing and brushing trails, replacing signs and pre- paring for the upcoming season. In addition to the clubs and associa- tions gathering momen- tum, the legislature in Washington DC has been reviewing the rec- reational trails program and is planning to possi- bly increase the amount of trail money that will be distributed through the man’s Club, last 2019/2020 sea- son. Congratulations to all of these recipients as they join a prestigious group of MSA Hall of Fame members. The Hall of Fame Committee is ready to hear from you the snowmobile community for nominees for this years’ selection. Nomina- tion forms are available from

trails program. This will hopefully come to a con- clusion over the next 6-9 months and you should know that the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) and their members have been very helpful in promot- ing the expansion of the Trail Program through- out the United States. Through the hard work of many snowmobilers, the Land Managers and their teams are effec- tively using new monies that have been provided to them by the legislature and their efforts should result in better riding areas, better trailheads, and overall better condi- tions for all of us. One can notice the explosive introduction of new high-quality trucks and large SUVs being sold as tow vehicles in any committee member or on the MSA website. Committee members include Eric Spear, John Holmes, Ken Oberg, Roland Bowie, Mike DeRusha and John and Melanie Monk. We are always looking for more committee members to join our group, please reach out to myself or any committee

the marketplace. There are many individuals moving from an auto- mobile to a truck and are prime potential custom- ers for snowmobiling and other outdoor recre- ational activities – all the while maintaining social distancing. The new trucks feature additional safety features and are also more welcoming to drivers of all ages – both male and female. The snowmobile man- ufacturers are working hard to introduce very high-quality snowmo- biles with fun built into their products. Snowmo- biles continue to improve in comfort and handling. This winter looks and feels like it will be a great time for the snowmo- bile community, and we encourage everyone to participate with their local member for more information. Important date to remember is February 26th 2021 which is the deadline for submitting nomination forms. Forms can be emailed to Office@mes- now.com or can be mailed to address found on the nomina- tion form. We look forward to reviewing many nominations

clubs and state/provincial associations/federations and plan to participate in some great fun events. We encourage you to share your fun snow- mobiling photos on our Facebook page www. facebook.com/GoSnow- mobiling for all to see. Check our website www. snowmobile.org for dates and ideas to participate in International Snow- mobile Safety Week in January 2021 and Take a Friend Snowmobiling week in February 2021. We also have the Safe Riders video chapters for download too.
