Island Commons Notes from the Hall

Join us April 18 for the final Community Lunch of the season. It’s the ever-popular roast beef lunch sponsored by Mark H. Dyer, Inc. As coffee, soup, and Community Lunch season wind down, our other programs at the Hall start getting into gear. Beginning in May we will be looking for donations to the Martha Hamilton Arts for the Island Craft Swap scheduled for July. This event, named in honor of artist and crafter Martha Hamilton, solicits your donations of unwanted or excess fine arts and crafts materials beforehand and then offers you the opportunity to stock up your shelves or start a new hobby on the day of the Craft Swap. This is your chance to destash, declutter, and downsize your art supply hoard and then to stock up with all new supplies on the day of the swap. Last year’s event was a huge success! We received hundreds of items, ranging from high-end yarn to woodworking supplies

to paints and brushes—with everything in between— and were able to find new homes for most of this fabulous merchandise! Shoppers were inspired by the $5 entry fee, which allowed them to take home as much as they wanted—from yards of upholstery fabric to tatting gear and picture frames. If you could think of a craft, you no doubt could have found the supplies to feed it at the Craft Swap! Contact Sam McLean for more information. The Hall is also looking to replace our old and, in some cases, broken overhead lights with energy-efficient models. In conjunction with the other members of the Chebeague Island Community Center, we are also soliciting bids and grant money to upgrade our generator and spruce up the exterior of the building. These needed upgrades will cost at least $55,000, so we have a lot of work to do!
