Notes from the Council

The Council has a busy year ahead! As the number of returnable bottles and cans continues to grow, the Chedemption volunteers are always looking for more helpers. Please call Ann Thaxter at 846-3274 if you would like to join the “Baggettes.” Rumor has it they have a lot of fun while doing a ton of work! The Wellness Center programs have been very well received, and we are looking forward to offering even more health-related services this year. Your suggestions are always welcome. Please check out our new feature in the Calendar: a column with tips for handling a power outage or other emergencies. This column is intended to offer tips for people to implement in their own homes and will complement an island-wide emergency plan. It is not too early to start setting aside those gently used items for the thrift shop. Schoolhouse Seconds can provide you a receipt and, like Chedemption,

all the money raised stays here on the Island. Give Christine Auffant a call at 203-675-3983, and she will fill you in on all the details. If you need a break from winter already, start thinking about themes for the Fourth of July Parade. Send us your ideas—the winning idea could earn you a lobster roll! The Calendar will continue to feature island lobster boats on the cover this year. We are very grateful to Cathy MacNeill for donating her beautiful photos, and we thank all our advertisers whose support helps make the Calendar possible. And, please, if you or someone you know needs heating fuel, call Ester at 846-4178 to arrange for fast, free, and anonymous fuel assistance.
