again to start thinking about our upcoming snowmobile season. Let’s first recap a little about our previous year. We had a great riding season- one of the best in recent years. We probably did more riding this past winter than in 5 years combined. And as always, our won derful crew kept our trails well maintained, groomed, and safe for those who enjoyed them. THANK YOU! We also underwent a grant application process to help fund the purchase of a new groomer. I am pleased to announce that our application was approved and we will be pur chasing a Honda Foreman 4x4. This will aid our grooming team in providing them with the much needed equipment to continue their outstanding services. I must also mention that during this process, the Maine Snowmobile Association was extremely helpful in guiding us through the process by answering any and all questions we had. In addition, by working through the steps of this grant process, we were able to get our trails mapped and logged into the new MSA App. Last year’s great riding allowed our club to take a trip to Greenville for a great weekend of camaraderie, superfood, lots of laughs and of course great riding towards Monson. The year before we made it to Shin Pond near Patton and from there took a 70 mile ride to the Ghost Trains near Eagle Lake. AMAZING! We are looking forward to planning our next weekend trip and hoping to make it an annual one. Even though it is extremely rewarding to do all the hard work required to maintain our trails and keep them safe, these trips are important . They allow our members to celebrate the hard work they put into our trail systems by having a little fun too. We would like to express our sincere grati tude to those landowners that allow us access to their properties so that we can enjoy this wonderful state of ours by doing something we love while enjoying the great outdoors at the same time. THANK YOU! Also, we need to thank our outgoing president Lou- Anne Parker. We appreciate all your time, effort, dedication, and tireless energy in making our club run smoothly and continue its good work in the community. THANKS AGAIN! As we close this previous season, we now must look forward to the next. We will con tinue our work in maintaining our local trails. One aspect of that is looking at rerouting a trail with a dangerous hill and hopefully mini mizing time spent on the road. We will also be looking at reopening a trail we haven’t had in years. This will hopefully allow better access to Readfield. In addition, we will be conducting several fundraising events throughout the year. One you can expect is selling Super Raffle tickets. Funds earned not only provide much needed resources to keep our MSA and local clubs functional but also a portion of our club’s proceeds goes to helping our local commu nity. This is an example of one of our club’s objectives. Give back to our community. We donate to local charities or families in need and also provide a helping hand to neighbors who might require assistance. So as we gear up for another season, if you haven’t already, consider joining your local club. Be a part of something that not only promotes the sport but our organizations often play a vital role in supporting our communi ties. Our first meeting of the year will be Mon day September 14th at 6:00 pm at the Patria’s house. All other meetings will be the 1st Mon days of the month at the Ladd Center in Wayne with pizza being served. If you have any ques tions, please call our new club president- Tom Fylstra at 207-242-4112 And remember, as the MSA says, United we trail, divided we fail. been confronted with new homes being built on our 60-year-old snowmobile trails. New asphalt driveways that we have to protect from our ski-skags and carbide tracks. Trees that have been reported as breaking or blown over during the summer storms. And the ongo ing issue with 5.3 miles of Mountain Division rails that are scheduled to be turned into a new multiuse trail system in the town of Hiram. Last year we had 47 members with 12 or so volunteers attending meetings and volunteer ing for trail maintenance, as well as getting out on the snowmobile trails grooming those “white-ribbon-trails” that we all like to get out and enjoy. SVSD starts with its first meeting on the first Tuesday of September at 7pm and the first Tuesday of every month thereafter till April, at the Kezar Falls Fire Station located in the town of Porter, Maine. Remember, many hands make light work. Hope to see you there… Support your sport! John Lambert - Club Reporter and Trailmaster WESTERN REGION Hello everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great summer! Good summer everyone from the Linneus Sno-Sports. With sweltering humidity and 90 plus degree weather, thinking about the upcoming snowmobile season helps tolerate the elements. We recently met to discuss a bridge repair on ITS 83 N/S in Houlton at the B Stream Bridge. This endeavor will be a joint effort between the Sno-Sports and The Medux nekeag Ramblers. This will take place in the next month. Meanwhile, we are getting equipment ready for the upcoming season. Signage and stakes are being repaired and painted. Trails are being updated with repairs and brushing is happening also. Our clubhouse has Bingo most Mondays and we are gaining bigger audiences due to our bigger jackpots, and the efforts of Greg Smith and his Bingo team. Please stop by and enjoy Bingo, great people and our super kitchen with great selection of eats and drinks. Finally, we are trying to increase our mem bership with a push to bring more families to our club with more rides and training for youths. More detailed info will be forwarded as our season evolves.
