Dana Laplante Fire/Rescue Chief

To the citizens of the Town of Harrison, This past year has been one of steady progress, investment, and continued dedication to serving our community. The members of the Fire & Rescue Department remain committed to providing professional emergency services while enhancing safety, efficiency, and readiness for the challenges we face. During 2025, the department responded to 364 calls for service. These incidents ranged from emergency medical responses and motor vehicle accidents to fire suppression and public assistance calls, as well as mutual aid to our surrounding communities. Each response reflects the ongoing commitment of our personnel to protect life and property. The department was fortunate to secure several important grants that have significantly enhanced our operational capabilities: Maine EMS Grant for $50,000.00 Funds were used to purchase A LUCAS mechanical CPR device, improving patient care consistency during cardiac emergencies, new spinal longboards, ensuring safer patient immobilization, an inflatable ice rescue boat, expanding our cold-water rescue capabilities, and an SCBA fit test machine, ensuring all members have properly fitted respiratory protection Maine Forest Service Matching Grant for $9500.00 This funding is being used to acquire five sets of multi-function fire gear designed for motor vehicle crashes, wildland and woods fires and other non-structure fire incidents. This specialized gear enhances firefighter safety while reducing heat stress during the summer months, allowing members to operate more effectively in demanding environments. The department continues to make meaningful upgrades to the fire station including the installation of a diesel exhaust removal system this past fall, funded through appropriations from last year’s town meeting. Replacement of outdated systems with new combination air hose and electrical cord reels, improving reliability and efficiency for apparatus readiness. These improvements contribute to a safer working environment and better operational response times. Efforts have been ongoing to improve community preparedness and emergency access with replacement of dry hydrant signage throughout town. Installation of more visible and durable markers, ensuring quicker identification during emergencies. Our Fire/EMS Association continues to play a vital role in supporting the department and its members. A new bottle redemption building has been installed in front of the station, community donations are greatly appreciated. Funds raised will go directly toward purchasing needed equipment. The Association has also launched an address marker service designed to help residents improve visibility of their homes for emergency responders. Community members are encouraged to reach out to any department member for more information. The progress made this year reflects the strong partnership between the department, the town, and the community we serve. From new life-saving equipment to infrastructure upgrades and community programs, each step strengthens our ability to respond effectively. We extend our sincere gratitude to the residents, town officials, and supporting organizations who make this work possible.

Respectfully submitted,

Dana Laplante Chief of Department
