Induction into the Hall of Fame - Leon Dunn

T he Maine Snowmobile Association is proud to announce the posthu mous induction of Leon Dunn into the Maine Snowmobile Hall of Fame in recognition of his dedication, hard work, and lifelong commitment to snowmobiling and trail grooming in Western Maine. Leon became a member of the Windy Valley Snowmobile Club in Newry in 1986 and quickly became known as one of the club’s most dependable and respected volunteers. Alongside fellow club member Bill Wight, Leon became one of the club’s “go-to guys,” always willing to step forward when ever work needed to be done. For many years, Leon inspected and maintained ITS trails throughout the Newry area, earning a reputation

for having some of the best-signed and best-maintained trails in the region. He took tremendous pride in his grooming work and meticulously cared for the groomer he kept at his home, dedicating countless hours to keeping trails safe and enjoyable for riders. Leon regularly groomed trails three times a week, often tackling difficult terrain including routes over Mount Will and Grafton Notch. Even into his seventies, he continued working long hours in deep snow and challenging conditions simply because of his love for the sport and the trails. His dedication did not go unnoticed. Leon received the Maine Snowmo bile Association Appreciation Award in both 1998 and 1999, and in 2009 he

was honored as Groomer of theYear. Those who knew Leon remember him not only for his strong work ethic, but also for his kindness, pride, and unwavering passion for snowmobil ing. Even after dementia forced him to step away from grooming, his love for the trails and the snowmobiling com munity remained evident to all who knew him. Leon passed away in Feb ruary 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication that will not be forgotten. The Maine Snowmobile Association proudly honors Leon Dunn for his many years of service and extends its congratulations to his family and friends on this well-deserved recognition.
