Dear Residents of RSU 16, Our mission— Creating a Better Future, One Student at a Time —is not just a statement on paper. It is something we see and feel every day in our classrooms, on our fields, and throughout our towns. This year has been full of special moments. From students participating in hands-on learning outside the classroom walls, to the lights, laughter, and togetherness of school and community events, there is much to celebrate. Our students continue to impress us, including those who led thoughtful dialogue during the Can We? Connect event, modeling the kind of leadership and civic engagement that gives me great hope for the future. We are also incredibly proud of our staff, whose dedication and professionalism make these experiences possible. This year, we celebrated colleagues honored for 10, 20, 30, and even 40 years of service —a testament to commitment and care for our students and communities. We were thrilled to see Neisha Strom named one of Maine’s Top Ten RISE Award recipients , and we proudly celebrated our 2025 Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) High School Health Education Teacher of the Year Sarah Rose and 2026 Maine Teacher of the Year, Julia Edwards , whose work exemplifies excellence in education. Across the district, we are seeing meaningful progress on priorities that matter deeply to families. Our focused efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism and limit cell phone use at school are making a difference, as we continue strengthening relationships, supports, and a sense of belonging for students. Outdoor learning adventures—from schoolyard explorations to district-wide initiatives, like the 2nd Annual GEO (Get Everyone Outside)—are helping students connect learning to the world around them while supporting well-being and engagement. Finally, I am reminded again and again that RSU 16 is more than a school district—it is a community. Events like the Tri-Town Family 5K and Girls on the Run highlight the strong partnerships between schools, families, and towns, and the shared commitment to student health, connection, and joy. Thank you for your continued support, trust, and engagement. Together, we are building something meaningful—celebrating achievements, facing challenges with compassion, and always keeping students at the center of our work. Great things are happening in RSU 16, and I am proud to be part of this community as we continue creating a better future, one student at a time.
