This means that whoever owns the property on April 1 st is responsible for the real estate taxes for the upcoming fiscal year. The Town of Buxton has a fiscal year that runs from July 1 st through June 30 th . Any deed changes that are recorded at the York County Registry of Deeds after April 1 st will be reflected in the tax commitment for the following fiscal year. The Board of Selectmen serve as the Assessors for the Town of Buxton. Property taxes are committed to the Tax Collector annually in July. Tax bills are mailed to all taxpayers in August. All real estate and personal property taxes that are not paid by June 30 th will be recorded in the Annual Town Report as delinquent. Maine state law requires the Tax Collector to send 30-day notices to delinquent accounts no sooner than eight (8) months and no longer than twelve (12) months after taxes have been committed. If taxes remain unpaid following the 30-day period, a tax lien will be recorded at the York County Registry of Deeds. To avoid automatic foreclosure, a tax lien mortgage must be paid in full within eighteen (18) months of the lien’s recording date.
