work that needs to be done before snow flies & for that I would like to personally thank those who chose to spend time at the show. Thank you for all who took the time to talk with me over the weekend. I met a lot of new people and caught up with old friends. Grant deadlines are quickly approaching (December 1 st ) and please remember that the work you want to be reimbursed for cannot be done until your grant has been approved through the Snowmobile Program office. Along with your grant is landowner permission, which is crucial to our trail system statewide. Please reach out in any way shape or form necessary to engage with landowners to ask permission for this season. We all know that land changes hands rapidly so be aware and get the right folks involved. Part of the solution for additional trail funding in the medium term can come from the November 2024 ballot Question #4, Trails Bond. There were over 100 applications for the September 26 th deadline and as I write this, they are in the review process. There was over $15 million in requests for the $7.5 million available this year. We know there were many clubs who applied, and others who started and did not finish. MSA has been working with the Maine Trails Coalition to provide feedback to the office in charge of these grants. Be looking for the link to a survey from the Maine Trails Coalition. We at the MSA work all year long to make All eyes are now focused on the MSA Super Raffle, which is in full swing and will be going on for a few more weeks and drawn on Thursday, December 11 th . So get out and purchase what could be the winning ticket! This year there are a couple of very cool changes. The first one is the addition of a $5,000 Gift Card, which will be banked by the winner at any MSA supporting Snowmobile a new format and rearranged the front yard at the Civic Center. We received some good comments and some valuable advice for the next show, which is okay. Thank you to all the volunteers who traveled far and near to help. We couldn’t have done it without you. Sorry, I did not get to see you all, but a family issue has kept me grounded. The team made it hap pen, though. The Raffle is doing well in these challeng ing times; many clubs have been using the trailers and sleds to display them while selling tickets. The prizes are incredible. The trailers are donated by two of the nation’s top trailer manufacturers and made in Maine Nitro in Pittsfield and Sno Pro in Winslow. These folks are the best friends we could have. Thank you, Mr. Alcom/Sno Pro and Mr. Nitro, your con tribution and support make our clubs money, and I appreciate your kindness. With Arctic Cat back, we have our top how dismal or destructive it was. We always work hard in anticipation of a banner winter to come and get almost gitty at the thought of reaping the fruits of our labor and riding those perfectly groomed trails with the people, we love spending time with. And that is why our windshields to see what’s ahead of us are big and the mirrors to see what is behind us are very small. With that being said, all signs show that we are going to have a really good snowfall this season with temperatures to sustain it… see what I mean, I’m truly optimistic about this upcoming season already! But in all seriousness I do believe we have all earned the right to have a good riding season and all the signs are in place for this to be the one. By now, the annual MSA Snowmobile Show is in the history books and the new “Power Sports Show” was a success, bringing in new vendors, products and different forms of recreational Powersports, which brought in a more diverse group into the show. The outside venue was a great addition to the show, as well as the Vintage room also saw another successful year. We at the MSA definitely took a lot of notes and will take what worked really well and embellish on them for next year as well as notes and suggestions on what didn’t work so well so that we can make positive changes and keep the show interesting and fresh.

dealer in Maine. So you as the winner will have 5,000 bucks to spend at your chosen dealer! Secondly, another prize added to the list of top prizes is a 3-Day stay for you and 13 of your sledding friends, meals included at Shin Pond Village! Another great feature added to the Super Raffle this year is the ability to buy tickets online, so even if you don’t catch up with someone who has tickets to sell, you can now buy them on-line from the comfort of your Easy chair. Please feel free to visit mainesnowmobileassociation.com and get your tickets today! Are you looking for a Digital mapping app for your phone, tablet or GPS? Then look no further than the MSA’s new on-line map offered through Map Gears. Simply go to your play store or apple store and type in Maine Snowmobile Association Map and download the app for free or download the Pro version for just 4.99 a year. This is the same app as all of our neighboring states use so it makes it seamless when crossing state lines. And to make it even easier to download the app visit mainesnowmobileassociation.com. Just one last thing. As a Club please make sure that you have gone through your MSA Membership packet as well as the Grant packet sent from the Dept. of A.C.F (Joe’s Higgin’s Office) as there are important documents that need to be filed and are time sensitive with deadlines coming up quickly. Well that’s all for now folks. So until next time, if you have any questions, comments, suggestions or just would like to talk snowmobiling please reach out to me, I would love to hear from you, and remember my door is always open! Thanks, Mark sure we are supporting you in every way we can. If you’re struggling with something, please reach out to us at the MSA for help with that matter. If there is something we are not doing, let us know. Our contact information is in the paper, so reach out through the office (Liz is a pleasure to talk with), to me or one of the regional VP’s and we will help you in any way we can. We may not have all the answers but will work with you to help resolve your questions/concerns or needs. We are here to support you and your clubs. Other resources for trails & landowner issues are the folks from Department of Conservation snowmobile program, specifically the regional trails coordinators. These folks work for Joe’s office and help clubs and landowners resolve issues that come up. Another resource is the Warden Service landowner relation program, the two folks at the state level (Andrew Smart & Kris MacCabe) can help you coordinate and talk through landowner issues, potentially resolving issues for your club. Please don’t try to take it all on by yourself, some of the issues clubs deal with can be quite daunting and time-consuming. It is OK to ask for assistance, these conversations are crucial to trail systems in your community and our State. If you have a question, problem, concern, or idea on snowmobiling in Maine, get in touch with me. You can contact me on the phone # or email below. Matt snowmobiles all lined up and ready for the new 2026 season. Let’s hope for no more sur prises with folks closing down. Landowners are why we’re in business. Over 94% of our trails are on private property. Respect them. Stay on marked trails. We have over 14,000 miles of trails, and new trails are opening. I attended the ribbon-cutting cere mony in Oakland last month for the new rail trail. This new trail brings Central Maine folks to the North Maine Woods—a welcome addi tion to our system. New trails and new landowners are in our future. Let’s educate the new folks on who we are and the value of the trail on their land. Please go out and visit these people, tell them who you are, welcome them, and describe how important the trail on their property is. Every trail is a piece of our puzzle, and every piece is essential. Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Sea son. Be safe out there! AL

Western: Jerry- good new lots of landowner dinners, Bridgeton doing lots, no ITS 89 in Oxford this year north. Coastal: Dave- getting trails ready & organized, looking forward to show this to continue to present scholarships at the MSA annual meeting in April 2026. Once again, the Leeds Stump Thumpers SC hosted the MSA monthly directors meeting and supper. They provided a wonderful turkey dinner that was delicious and donated all the money raised, including their costs to the Lafland Scholar ship fund. The winner of the 50/50 drawing was Tom England and he donated his win nings to the Lafland Scholarship fund, with the other half going in to the MSA scholar ship fund. That meant $600 went in to the Lafland Scholarship fund and $60 went in to the MSA Scholarship fund. This Lafland Scholarship Award fund was started by Brad Barker as a way of honoring Larry. At the present time the money raised at that event and this event along with money donated from Larry’s celebration of life is in an account as there are details being worked out as to how to distribute it. These funds will be available beginning in 2026, with award winner being announced at the 2027 annual meeting. The Lafland Scholarship amount that is currently on the Treasurer’s report is a separate account safety checks on your sleds and any other snowmobile-related equipment. Check over mechanical issues that can cause situations down the trail. Prepare and inspect engines, drivetrain, and suspension. Perform thorough lookovers and address any necessary repairs. Fresh fuel, top off coolant, and other fluids. Change oil and filters. Inspect the drive belt for wear, clean the clutch, and service the drive chain with new oil. Lubricate everything that needs grease. How are the track, shocks, and wheel bearings? Headlights, taillights, and brake lights should all be working. Wear the right gear to ride. Wear insulated clothing, gloves, and dress in layers. Base, mid, and outer. Bring a first aid kit with survival gear, tools, flashlights, matches, and food. Check the weather report; whiteout condi tions are an accident waiting to happen. But if you get caught in one, always stay together, never separate. Watch out for wildlife; moose and deer often walk on our trails, so be aware of them. Plan your trip and let folks at home know where you’re going and when you return. Know the laws of the trails, follow them. The laws were made to ensure safety and protect our landowners. Hopefully, we will be riding in early December. Opening day is December 15th. Let’s hope for snow and cold weather. Register your sled and help by joining a club. We’re aging and need some new help! Be safe out there, AL

Thanks to Harvey Chesley, Marion Pinkham, Steve Wright, Gail Ryan, Bob LaFontaine, and Paula Huff, $328 was raised that weekend to add to the MSA Scholarship Savings Fund. Congratulations to the weekend winners who were: Ray Crossman from Carmel, Katie Grant from the Lexington Highlanders SC, and Sherry Brackett from Owls Head. The Scholarship Committee would also like to say THANK YOU to the Alna SC for their donation of $200 to the fund. They made this donation at the MSA show in Augusta. Remember any one and any club can con tribute to the scholarship savings fund at any time. The more money collected the more scholarships we can award to MSA members.

Ted Caruso, Charlene McFarland, Marion Pinkham, Polly Grass, Jerry Major, then gave a good joke. Old Business: Super Raffle-online, already discussed earlier in the meeting, sleds been all around promoting. MSA Show Update- discussed earlier in the meeting, have all kinds of new things for the show (boats, motorcycles, sleds, etc), volunteers still needed at the show, Vintage show about 50 sleds now & proceeds go to Trail Safety Fund. Funding & MST Program update- unstable connection on zoom. Grass drags- Eileen reported about the weekend said that it was good, but attendance was down compared to last year. Announcements & Events: Oct 25-Nov 30 Lexington Highlanders Hunter’s breakfast every Saturday from 5-9am Nov 1 st North Anson craft fair. November 18 th meeting- at Madison VFW 58 Preble Ave Madison ME. Feb 7 th Groomer Rodeo at East Branch East Millinocket Pot of Gold- Eileen mixed up, Dave picked North Star Rider Montville Maine, not in attendance. 50/50 Drawing- winning ticket 957153 won by Tom England $60 donated back to Larry Lafland Scholarship. Adjourn at 8:14pm. The Scholarship Committee is in the process of putting $60,000 in to a CD. This money was in a CD that matured and the committee looked for options to increase the interest for this amount. More information will be avail able at the November Directors meeting on what decision was made. In reviewing the MSA Scholarship Commit tee By- Laws and to come in line with them the committee has added three new members. At present Harvey Chesley and Barry Ryan are co- Chairs of this committee, and Eileen Lafland is the secretary. Long-standing mem bers include Bob LaFontaine, Gail Ryan, and Mike Grass. New this year are Lori Hem merdinger, Brad Barker, and Marie Doucette. This brings the committee to nine members which is what the By-Laws state is needed. That’s all for this month. Remember go to the MSA website, download the application and guidelines, and get those applications in. It’s never too early to start the process as the April 1 st deadline is fast approaching. The Trail committee has had most of our mapping dinners by now and inspection routes and club assignments have been locked in. We are starting to get very active as clubs are out prepping for the upcoming season. As your club gears up, don’t forget to review your landowner lists and confirm authorization for your trails. Another area that has us very busy is the MSA’s new App—MSA TRAILS. By now, you should have seen Facebook posts and emails or heard through the grapevine about the App. With YOUR assistance, we will be continu ally updating the App to include club trails and your local points of interest. We can add your trails, clubhouse, gas stations, restaurants, lodging, and more. Clubs can increase revenue by upselling business memberships with a POI on our App. We are suggesting a minimum of $20 per POI but your club may negotiate any amount. Clubs will keep 100% of funds they collect for POI’s. The only caveats are it must be trail accessible AND snowmobile related. We have tried to make it easy for submission via a Formstack link on our website. Trail plots can also be shared via this form but it can easily be done directly from the App. There will be a learning curve on all fronts, but our collabora tion will result in the most accurate platform out there ! I hope your club jumps aboard the technology improvements underway!! All for now---- Do your snow dance! Brent rials and would be glad to travel. Just reach out and we will set a date.

A NOTE TO ALL CLUB PEOPLE FILLING OUT MEMBERSHIP TRANSMITTAL FORMS PLEASE HAVE MEMBERS COMPLETE ALL INFORMATION ON THE RENEWAL CARDS. In order for the MSA Office to have accu rate information, we ask that you get all infor mation from members. MSA uses this infor mation for data purposes so, having complete cards is important. Don’t forget to ask how the member wants to receive their paper. With postage increases it will help save money if a member decides they want the paper digitally or not at all. The member’s mailing address is another important area. MSA gets charged for a paper returned with an incomplete address. ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE- IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING SPREADSHEET TYPE MEMBER LISTS, PLEASE INDICATE WHICH MEMBERS ARE RENEWING AND INCLUDE MSA MEMBER NUMBER ON THE SPREADSHEET. We have been receiving spreadsheet lists that include many names on them, but only interest is high and people are ready to have a good ole-fashion Maine winter. Now it’s up to Mother Nature and OleMan Winter to give us one! As I reported in October news the Burling ton Back Country Riders in Burlington and the Twin Rivers SC in Howland have new faces and are really working hard to get these clubs back up and going strong. The meet ing in Burlington was a success and members of that club attended the MSA show to meet and listen to Joe Higgins and Brent Spauld ing talk about grants and trail signage. Also at the show were members of the Twin Riv ers SC to hear the same information. I went to Howland and met with Jay Mitchell and Robert Tretheway to help them understand the paperwork for MSA and deliver member ships cards and raffle tickets. All the people involved in the revival of these two clubs are eager to get the trails in shape and for people to join them. Reach out to them and welcome them back and while you are at it, why not join their clubs! The link they both provide in that area of the state is vital and will be great to have once again. On November 6th the Glenburn Lakeside Riders hosted a regional meeting. Fourteen clubs were invited as well as representatives from MSA . My thanks to this club for hosting this and for the wonderful snacks they pro vided. I’m not sure but I think a few people come just to see if Marion Pinkham has made her “famous” whoopie pies!! November also has clubs holding regular meetings, selling raffle tickets, doing trail work and in some cases holding landowner suppers. By the time you read this, Eastern Maine SC will most likely have held their annual landowner supper. This club has almost 200 landowners in four towns so a lot of work goes in to getting the word out to all of them. If any club in the Eastern Region would like me to attend an event they are holding, please contact me and hopefully I can make it. That’s all for his month. Enjoy Thanksgiv ing with your families and friends. Try not to eat too much so your snowmobile clothes still fit when the riding comes. Until December! Eileen W ell folks, not a lot to talk about this month, maybe that’s good. I know the trail crew are all busy getting as much as possible done to the trails to make it easy going for the rest of us this winter. All we need is Mother Nature to cooperate and give us an abundance of snow. Other than that we (Miss Terri and I), have attended a couple landowners dinner and met some great people. It is always a pleasure to thank them personally, and tell them a couple jokes. Nothing else newsworthy to report, so stay Happy and Healthy, and do the SNOW DANCE. Until next time, God Bless Jerry Major

some are renewals and the rest may be last year’s complete member list. It is important that we know exactly which names to enter, so they receive their paper and we don’t have to go back and delete many names that didn’t need to be entered. Including the member MSA number also makes it easier and faster for data entry as we can use that number to find them in the system rather than typing in their complete name and hoping there isn’t more than one person with that name. ONE MORE NOTE- If you include a person on the transmittal that doesn’t have a card, please note on the front of the transmittal member with no card included and then mark on the back of the transmittal which one(s) it is. If on the front it indicates there is payment for ten people but there are only nine cards and no indication who it is, we check each card to the names to find the person. We had many people fill out membership forms at the MSA Show in Augusta which is always great to have happen. If your club re ceives a letter and credit from MSA because someone did this, please acknowledge them

Also some if not most clubs in the Northern Region are making the final push on selling MSA Super Raffle tickets, which too is another great way to support the clubs as half or the proceeds the clubs sell remain with them. For those of you who are looking at a cal endar and are planning your sledding trips to The County here are a few sledding events that are starting to be advertised. North Star Motor sports once again this year will be holding their first race of the season on January 17 th in Presque Isle. Stay tuned to their social media pages, as more info will be provided, as the date gets closer. The following day the Caribou Snowmobile Club will be holding their Annual Larry Doody Scholarship Memorial Radar Run on January 18th. Follow their Facebook page as location and event info will be posted on there. As the saying goes you save the best for last so with that being said mark your cal endars for the week of Feb 23 rd - March 2nd as Spud Speedway in Caribou will be hosting their 4th Annual SnowBowl which is sure to be a great time. Follow their Facebook page or check out SpudSpeedway.com for more info. To end let’s all keep our fingers crossed that this season is better than the past few seasons have been. I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and remember to always ride right, ride sober and ride safe. Nick Morrill If there’s anything I can do to support you or your club, please don’t’ hesitate to reach out. Thanks for all you do, Ron Nunes CLUB MEMBERS Once grooming begins submit your trail reports to: EDITOR@MESNOW.COM Please include your name and club affiliation service and trail maintenance. Your dedication and effort are what make snowmobiling such a great sport in our area.Thank you to all our members and workers – your contributions truly make a difference. For those who attended the Augusta Powersports Show, you already know it was a fantastic event. For those who missed it – mark your calendars for next year! The addition of new vendors brought fresh energy and excitement to the show. During the Trails Workshop, Joe Higgins provided an insightful update on grants, and Brent Spaulding shared important information about trail signage. The Maine Snowmobile Associations (MSA) is actively working with the legislature to develop new funding sources to strengthen the Grant Program. Stay Tuned for Updates! Remember, there are many ways to help, even if you don’t ride. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and build lasting friendships within the community. Eileen Lafland 207-843-7813 PO Box 733, Holden ME 04429 L.andE.lafland525476@gmail.com H ello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to all! Here it is November and if we are lucky by now the ground is freezing, and snow is falling. In mid- October there was snow on Mt. Katahdin, so let’s hope we have a great winter! October was a month of shows. Some peo ple attended the show in NY the first weekend of the month. The second weekend MSA was in the NH Race into Winter show in Freemont. We had a booth there and the interest was high. Our booth was in the large multi tent with other vendors. We were beside Gary Marquis and Aroostook County Tourism and across from the states of Vermont, Massachu setts, and NY snowmobile associations. We had New England pretty much covered. The third weekend was all Maine. We hosted the 28th MSA Snowmobile and new this year Powersports Show. The weather was nice for the large display of outside vendors we had. Show attendance seemed to be on point with past years with some times having more attendees than other but overall, another successful show. Thanks to everyone who had displayed, volunteered, and attended. In those two weekends I saw and spoke with many people and clubs from Maine and specifically the Eastern Region. I must say the

Nick Morrill, 207-554-0074 406 Main Street, Stockholm ME 04783 landscaper9791@gmail.com H ello once again from the Northern part of the state. Harvest season has finally wrapped up for the 2025 year and hunting sea son is now in full swing which can only mean the 2025-26 riding season is hopefully only a few weeks away. Even though I like seeing that 4-letter word that begins with “S” in and out of the extended forecast, it would be nice to see our state get some much-needed rain before the ground freezes. Let’s hope Mother Nature is good to us in the coming days and weeks. Clubs throughout the region have started to hold their monthly meetings with some hold ing elections for new directors and officers for the year ahead, along with getting equipment ready for the season, doing some trail main tenance work and getting signage ready. I encourage everyone to join a club or clubs this year and help them out in any way possible.
