2024 Scholarship Awards
Since 2015 The Little Sebago Lake Association has awarded to a graduating senior at Windham High School and Gray-New Gloucester High School. The award goes to those who are pursuing college in a program for general environmental sciences, water quality or watershed management. In celebration of our 100 th anniversary the Board increased the award to $1,000 for each of these deserving students. Here are excerpts from the thank you notes we received from the recipients. Caitlin Sweeney, Gray-New Gloucester High School Winner, attending Cornell University
Thank you again for supporting my education through the Little Sebago Lake Association Scholarship. I have loved my time on “the Hill” thus far. My fascinating introduction biology & chemistry courses have only cemented my decision to pursue a Biological Sciences major…. Ithaca is stunning, I have loved exploring the beautiful lakes, gorges, hills, gardens…I am part of the Cornell club rowing team, so I was fortunate to spend time on Lake Cayuga this fall. Through my writing class I wrote and published an Op-ed in the Portland Press Herald about the threat climate change poses to the Maine Nordic skiing industry. I am passionate about preserving our precious planet. Once again, thank you…
Lucas Oldershaw, Windham High School Winner, attending UC Davis
First, I must begin with a huge thank you to everyone at Little Sebago Lake Association for deciding to support me in my educational adventures I’ve chosen to attend the University of California Davis and have begun studying Sustainable Agriculture. Here in college, I plan on learning more about sustainable farming practices and how they can be scaled up and used to combat our environmental issues. I am unsure of exactly what I want to do after college, however, I would love to be a part of plant breeding programs, potentially breeding plants that need less water or pesticide applications. In and after college I won’t forget the part that Little Sebago Lake Association played in helping me achieve my goals, and I hope to make those who’ve supported me proud.
LSLA is proud to help support these hard-working students as they pursue their education and careers.
