To make the ballfield more user-friendly this year, we contracted for monthly mosquito spraying throughout the summer. Trustees’ primary focus for the year was to complete a park plan. An engineering firm was engaged to draw up the plans, suitable for implementation as funds allow. The firm’s first step is to review the deed. The deed in the Town’s park folder did not describe the property. A quick search by the firm found no suitable deed, so they paused and sent the issue back to the Trustees for resolution. The Trustees completed a lengthy online search through Registry documents, eventually finding a probable match, though many years prior to the Estes donation. The tax collector then completed a search of Town Meeting minutes, looking for mention of the land donation; nothing was found. The potential deed was given to the Town’s attorney for confirmation. She eventually decided professionals should be involved. Subsequent investigation by the Trustees and Selectmen’s’ staff resolved the issue. The park is made up of two separate parcels. The front section, off Chicopee Road, is the residual of a larger section obtained by the Town in 1959 from the Farrar family, lots 49 - 49C on the tax maps. The back portion of the park, abutting the Estes subdivision, is described by the deed that was in the folder, transferred from Ralph Estes in 1979. These findings will be added to the Town’s park folder. The Trustees will be resuming the park plan creation with the engineering firm. Respectfully submitted, ESTES PARK TRUSTEES Mia B.
