REGISTRAR OF VOTERS 07/01/2023 – 06/30/2024
The Registrar of Voters and Deputy Registrars had a busy year maintaining voter registration records, certifying petitions, attending training sessions and servicing elections. October started the election process as people requested absentee ballots for the November 7,2023 election. There was a 45.25% Active Voter Turn-Out as there are 5772 Active Registered Voters in Buxton. The breakdown of this total is 1871 ballots cast in person with 741 absentee ballots turned in. On January 3, 2024, a Special Town Meeting was held to reconcile accounts from fiscal year 2022 2023. The sum of these accounts totaled $288,793.47(Two hundred eighty-eight thousand seven hundred ninety-three and forty-seven cents) and the majority of the 42(forty-two) voters who were present voted to reconcile these accounts. Also, there was a positive vote to purchase a police cruiser for $70,000.00(seventy thousand) now rather than waiting for the 2024-2025 budget. On March 5, 2024, history was made as the Presidential Primary Election allowed unenrolled voters to pick between Democratic, Republican and Green Independent candidates. There were 224 absentee ballots cast and 870 ballots cast in person for a total of 1,094 ballots cast. This resulted in a 15.98% voter turnout. Next election will be June 2024. On May 23, 2024, the School Budget for MSAD#6 was presented, discussed and voted on by the voters of the five Towns who are serviced by this school district. The Town had 20 voters attend. The budget package was accepted and the next step in this process will happen on June 11, 2024, as the five Towns will be voting on this issue. June 11, 2024 Election was held to vote on State Primary, MSAD#6 District Budget Validation Referendum, Election of Directors and Annual Town Meeting. There were 740 total ballots cast which resulted in a 10.79% voter turnout. Again, unenrolled voters were allowed to be involved. Saturday, June 15, 2024, the Town’s Annual Meeting was held. There were 56 voters in attendance to vote on the 89 Articles which needed to be settled. All articles passed.
