Salmon Falls Library 2023-2024 Hours: Monday 3-6pm, Wednesday 4-7pm, Thursday 3-8pm, Saturday 9am-Noon This year SFL increased its membership by 34 households and 59 individuals. Our numbers for the 2023-2024 period: • 43-45 patrons per month • 1,368 items checked out this year • 6-7 people used the computer each month • 8 days every month volunteers worked in the library We continued “Paint Night” (“Paint Bars” are very popular throughout the country); By the end of the workshop, participants leave with a finished painting and maybe an interest in a new hobby. The materials were purchased with a grant from the Maine State Library in 2022. This year we offered Family Naturalist Backpacks to check out filled with goodies for nature lovers, sponsored by the Hollis Conservation Commission. They include: • Field guides to trees, bugs, birds, wildflowers, butterflies and just about anything else you could find on a hike; • Binoculars and a magnifying glass; • Nature activity guides and worksheets. • Our Puzzle Exchange continues to be very popular, even during the summer months. The puzzles were initially donated by a friend who previously owned a puzzle store and had lots of leftover stock. We have had so many donations that we had to limit the intake. 24 people have participated this year. Salmon Falls Library also ran a Summer Reading Program from June to September. The kids kept reading logs and got prizes whenever they brought them in. This year 11 kids signed up. We continued subscribing to the Bibliotheca Cloud Library e-book borrowing service through the Maine State Library. Our longtime volunteer, Paula Hodgdon moved to an Assisted Living facility in Scarborough. She worked at SFL two days a week for about 12 years. We really miss her but our loss is Scarborough Terrace’s gain. She has started a library there as well as a book club.
Respectfully submitted, Lynn Ericson, Library Director
