Spring, Where Are You? Winter isn’t done with us yet! We’re working hard to keep both parking lots clear, but the Cousins Lot is especially challenging with snowbanks taking up valuable space. To help with snow removal, please park at the Route One Lot during and after major snow events. A huge thank you to SKB Construction for keeping our lots, wharf, ramp, and float at Cousins Island safe and accessible! Stay warm and think spring! Barging Season Update! Our start date depends on the weather and prepping the barge for launch. While we aim for April 1, we typically begin mid-April. Want to get on the schedule? Spring will eventually arrive - and with it, The Recompense Fund’s annual grant application process. As a reminder, Recompense invites Chebeague

Island nonprofits to seek support for both capital projects and operating costs. Since its inception a decade ago, Recompense has given $450,000 to island nonprofits, always with the goal of helping them support a healthy, sustainable island community. In that time, Recompense has worked to increase grant amounts and has also expanded its grant-giving policies to include operating costs, to reflect the changing needs of the island nonprofits. Please go to https://www.recompensefund.com for detailed information on how to submit a grant. Board members are also glad to help with any questions about the process. This year’s deadline for grant submission is April 15. The board will review the grants and if questions arise, will contact the nonprofit for clarification. The board will confirm grant awards by the end of May.
