Town of Holden Recognizes Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club By Eileen Lafland
I n 1969 at the local barbershop in South Brewer, a group of men who were avid snowmobilers were all talking about how to bring area snowmobilers together in one place. Snowmobiling in the area was becoming popular and surrounding towns were also looking for ways to gather. As the talk progressed, one person said if they did organize, he would donate a piece of land in Holden for them to build a clubhouse on. Long story short, in 1970 at 263 Levenseller Road in Holden, the East ern Maine Snowmobilers clubhouse was built and opened. Since that time, 54 years ago, EMSC has maintained a valuable working rela tionship with the Town of Holden. The clubhouse has been used for town meet ings, fund-raising dinners, Fire Depart ment training and many other events. The Club’s municipal trail grant is approved by them each year along with other sup
port for projects the club has taken on. The Town is in the process of improving a short section of the snowmobile trail from the Town lot for the Fire and Rescue Department to have better access to our trail system in case of emergency. The club has received two Spirit of America Foundation Awards in previous years.
Holden. The club was presented with a Certificate of Achievement in recognition of its partnership with the town for choos ing to establish a business in town, and for making the town’s snowmobile trails “some of the best around”. This was a surprise to the club and a great honor. The certificate was presented at the club and is proudly hanging on the wall. Thank you to the Town of Holden and to all our officers, directors and members for mak ing this possible.

X Racing joins forces with Snow Bowl in Maine’s Aroostook County Event to feature Snocross, Hill Climbs, RaveX Freestyle Show
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (Nov. 21, 2024) — Officials at X Racing and Spud Speedway have announced plans for a major snowmobile racing event this coming winter. The third annual Snow Bowl is slated for February 26 through March 2 at the Aroostook Center Mall in Maine’s beautiful Aroostook County. The Snow Bowl is much more than a weekend of racing. The racing portion of the event will feature snocross, hill climbs, a huge Freestyle show, but the week will also include a Groomer Rodeo, a special Friday Night under the Lights gathering at Spud Speedway, and a scenic Guided Ride around the area. “I am super excited to be part of this amazing event in northern Maine,” X Racing’s Joe Duncan said. “Troy Haney and Jim Gamage have worked hard to make their annual Snow Bowl a big success. They strive to promote the sport as a whole and help draw folks to the area. I really love the entire concept. “We’re teaming up to grow the sport of snowmobiling as a whole; hence the scenic Guided Ride during the week. The County has been known nationally to have some of the finest trails and scenery in all of North America. We want to deliver some great racing, while also drawing interest to a beautiful area.” The Aroostook Center Mall features an indoor trampoline park for kids, and makes an ideal facility for Snow Bowl vendors and spectators. Two tracks (snocross and Vintage) will be built using snow from the parking lots. The Hill Climb competition will take place at the Mars Hill Mountain ski area. Haney and Gamage are Maine natives and share Duncan’s excitement for the Snow Bowl. “Jim came to me with the idea for the Snow Bowl,” Haney said. “He moved up here fom Rockland, and loves to ride our beau tiful trails. He wanted to promote the entire region, and we’ll take folks to see some of the sights on our Guided Ride. There will be plenty to see and do during Snow Bowl week. “This gives us the opportunity to not only promote our race, but the sport and area itself. The big draw up here is our extensive, nation ally-renowned trail system. So we want folks to come up, plan a nice ride, and enjoy some great racing. We think if they do, they’ll want to come back year after year.” Spud Speedway has developed some of the top racers in New England with its door-to-door action. Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame inductees Bob Alexander, Mark Jones, the ‘Flying Frenchman’ Ernie Levesque, and former ARCA National cham pion AustinTheriault all competed here in their careers. Much more than just a facility for racing, Spud Speedway also hosts large concerts, a carnival with a midway, and even weddings. With their sprawling 48-acre facility, they can host events on any scale. From small private parties to major corporate gath erings, this is the venue of choice for 2025. X Racing officials would like to thank our valued marketing partners HK Powersports and Southside Sales for their continued support.
