Chedemption 2024 We had a fantastic Chedemption season in 2023! Over 2,100 Clynk bags were shipped off the island for no charge, thanks to Casco Bay Lines. This removed more than 34,000 pounds of glass, plastic, and aluminum from the island’s waste stream. The Chedemption Committee is once again asking for the island non-profits’ assistance in bagging up returnables during the summer months. Each non-profit received a check for $600 thanks to its 27 hours of volunteer help at the Chedemption shed last summer. Please reach out to one of these non-profits if you’d like to help them cover their hours. Keep in mind that volunteer weeks begin on Wednesday afternoons and run through Monday mornings. Chebeague Island Library
The Chebeague Island Library Board of Trustees would like to send our thanks and gratitude to all the supporters who made our 2023 fundraising campaign such a success.
Your continued support is a testament to the work that we do in building a community space where we can gather knowledge and bring enrichment to the island community. We are so excited to see everyone enjoying all of our regular events such Story Time, Book Club and Poetry for the People. You continue to write the book---so to speak---on generosity. Thanks to all of you, we have new plans in the works including increasing access to remote work spaces in the community, as well as building a new website.
We are lucky to have our dedicated Library staff and hope you will continue to come in and enjoy all we have to offer!
Many Thanks, Chebeague Island Library Board of Trustees

PAUL ENGLISH AND FRIENDS — JAZZ & MORE! SATURDAY, JULY 13, 7:00 P.M.
Houston-based pianist and composer Paul English has been full of delightful musical surprises each time he has per formed on Chebeague. He returns in July to open our sea son with more cool jazz featuring one of his long-time col laborators, Horace Alexander Young, whose career has fea tured gigs and recordings with such disparate artists as B.B. King, McCoy Tyner, Nancy Wilson, the O’Jays, the Four Tops and Betty Carter. Also on the bill, a string section! What is Paul up to this year? PAUL ENGLISH — SATCHMO ON SUNDAY SUNDAY, JULY 14, 10:00 A.M. “My whole life, my whole soul, my whole spirit is to blow that horn."--Louis Armstrong You may know jazz pioneer Louis Armstrong through his groundbreaking "West End Blues" or his pop hits "Hello, Dolly" and "What a Wonderful World." But, as we will joy fully discover, there was also deep spirituality to his music. Another Chebeague first--Satchmo on Sunday. The musicians of the Sebago Long Lake Music Festival have become part of the Chebeague extended family. They relish their time on Chebeague and, for over 20 years, Che beaguers in turn have embraced them and their inspiring chamber music. This summer, their program will feature works by Lucas Foss, Anton Arensky and Robert Schumann. Please note the special time of this concert. HALCYON STRING QUARTET ROBERT MCCLOSKEY’S “MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS” SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 4:00 P.M. Our “children of all ages” program has become one of our most popular offerings. This year’s program, created by the young members of the Halcyon String Quartet, will feature Make Way for Ducklings , Robert McCloskey’s enchanting story of two mallards who raise their brood on an island in SEBAGO LONG LAKE MUSIC FESTIVAL THURSDAY, JULY 25 6:30 PM
CONCERT PIANIST HENRY KRAMER SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 7:00 P.M.
The MacBeth Concert Series is honored to introduce classi cal pianist Henry Kramer to Chebeague Island. Raised in Cape Elizabeth, Mr. Kramer has emerged as one of the most celebrated pianists of his generation. He’s been praised for his “astonishingly confident technique” and the New York Times has extolled his “thrilling and triumphant” performances.
THE SEASIDE BRASS QUINTET SATURDAY, AUGUST 31, 2:00 P.M. JIM AND ANNE GALLAGH ER’S COTTAGE
What could be more pleasant? A sun swept lawn overlook ing Chandler’s Cove. Fun, eclectic music. Relaxed patrons singing along. Passersby wandering in to check out the scene. The Seaside Brass Quintet has built an increasingly loyal following since joining the summer series so many years ago. Make your plans now to join us when they re turn to Chebeague in late August.
TYLER PUTNAM AND SARAH NORDIN “CARMEN” SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 7:00 P.M.
One of last season’s most memorable moments was the eruption of applause and the cries of “Bravo” and ”Brava” at the conclusion of La Boheme. Opera had come to Che beague — triumphantly! Tyler, Sarah and their friends will thrill us again this summer with an abridged version of Georges Bizet’s Carmen, the world’s most popular opera. Come see what first-class opera is like on an island in the middle of Casco Bay. All performances will be held at the Chebeague Community Church, except as otherwise noted. MacBeth gratefully acknowl edges the support of the Chebeague Island Community Associa tion, which serves as our fiscal agent. QUESTIONS? Contact Carl Tubbesing at carldt@gwi.net.

Brian McLaren is one of the nation’s most influential authors writing at the intersection of Christianity and culture, especially in the area of spiritual formation. Included in the book are lots of practical recommendations and resources. I hope you’ll read the book and join in the discussion on the 16 th .
