In Memory of Scott Newton By: Deanna Newton
I f I had to describe my son in one word, it would be adventurous. From the
bile Climb. Scott spent many hours guiding his customers on some of the best trails in the Kennebec Valley. On their return to 201 Power Sports, I would often hear them say what a great time they had and that Scott was an amazing guide. Scott was the trail mas ter for the Valley Riders Snowmobile Club and
moment, as a child, he could climb onto a sled, he was always looking for the next adventure. He abso lutely loved the outdoors and couldn’t wait to share it with anyone who showed an interest, whether it be hiking into a waterfall, teaching students how to build a snow shelter or cooking a meal outdoors trailside. Snowmobiling was definitely a great passion of his. He always looked forward to the first snowfall, hoping it would be deep enough to go for a ride. Each year he looked forward to the annual “guys” trip up north; a time to get away, to ride, eat some amazing food and have a good time. His dream was to have an outdoor recreation business and that dream was realized. In the past several years, after opening 201 PowerSports with his business partner, Scott Hunnewell, the snowmobile and ATV rental business has taken off. His wife Mallory joined the team full time to keep up with the demands of rental reservations, retail sales, etc.
the Moose Alley ATV Club. He was passionate about the trail system and would often be in the trail groomer on a Thursday night among others, prepping the trails for the upcoming weekend. Occasionally he and Mallory would have “date night” out grooming the trails together. He took great pride in keeping the trails ready for all to enjoy. At the end of snowmobiling season, 201 PowerSports closes for the day so they can go on a staff ride, which usu ally includes stopping somewhere for lunch.
Each October, you can find them in their booth with members of their team at the MSA Snowmobile Show in Augusta and at the New Hamp shire Grass Drags. He also enjoyed going to Rangeley for the King of the Hill Snowmo
A tribute from MSA President Al Swett I’d like to say a few words about my friend Scott Newton. He was a remarkable young man with a passion for the outdoors and his family. He worked hard and long hours; he had a work ethic that shined. If I needed anything, he’d do it without question. Being in the Snowmobile business we had a lot in common. He was a Trailmaster for the Valley Riders in Bingham. His energy was tireless. He loved to work on the trails and often shared groomer rides with his wife Mallory. The two were tied at the hip so to speak. Even on special occasions like anniversary or birthdays, the two would be out dragging trails and putting up signs. He called me a few days before he passed. Wanting to get involved with the Super Raffle and getting 201 Powersports on the 100,000 tickets along with the posters and other advertising items. He said, “Call me if it’s not too late.” Well, it was too late everything had been printed. I only wish I would have called him to hear his voice one more time. Scott you’re a great young man and I’ll miss you dearly.
