Complaints As the code enforcement officer, I’ve been fielding and responding to many complaints. These range from junkyards, which are not allowed in Mechanic Falls, to habitability conditions within rental units, and to other land use violations. Although there is more to “clean up” around town, I have been working with multiple property owners to bring their properties into compliance with our ordinances and state law . If you have any questions or issues, please reach out to me so we can discuss them! I keep a well-documented list of ongoing issues and notes so each issue is dealt with properly. Although the conclusion is not always what is desired, I can at least look at the violations and see the process through. Certifications and Other Being new to the code enforcement field, the state of Maine requires education, testing, and certification in multiple areas. I’m happy to report that within four months of starting in Mechanic Falls, I received the required credentials to be a “fully certified” code enforcement officer. Since then, I went above and beyond to receive all certifications offered by the state of Maine for code officials. These areas include: Residential Building Code, Commercial Building Code, Residential Energy Code, Commercial Energy Code, Internal Plumbing, Subsurface Wastewater Disposal, Shoreland Zoning, Land Use Planning, Legal Issues, Residential Ventilation, Commercial Ventilation, and Residential Radon. In addition to certifications, I serve on the board of directors for the MBOIA (Maine Building Officials and Inspectors Association), which advocates on the state level for various issues and provides training for code officials across the state of Maine. I’m also heavily involved in my home city’s planning board and council realm, which included being on a petition committee for the largest referendum petition in the city of Auburn’s history. If you’re someone looking to get involved here in Mechanic Falls, contact the town hall and/or myself to see how you can make an impact !
