Staff: Library Director Lee Shaw resigned in October to take a position as Director at the South Berwick Public Library. Assistant Librarian Emily Martin went above and beyond in continuing to provide library services to the community while the Director position was vacant. Jay Campbell, formerly Head of Library Collections and Systems at Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts, was hired by a search committee consisting of Select Board Member Dustin Ward, Town Manager Christine Landes, Library Board of Trustees Chair CeCe Sullivan Rohrbach, and resident and retired librarian Peg Becksvoort. Jay began work in December. Board of Trustees: CeCe Sullivan Rohrbach served as Chair and Robb Cotiaux as Vice Chair. Other Trustees were Paul Morin, Colleen Strickler, Tim Terranova, and Youth Trustee Katherine Morris. Dustin Ward served as Select Board Liaison. Tim Terranova resigned after more than two decades as a Trustee, including past terms as Chair. A huge thank you to Tim for his dedicated service to the library and the community. The Select Board chose Carol Gillis, a retired architect, library volunteer, and Secretary of the Friends of the Library, to fill the vacant seat. Volunteers: Many thanks to our volunteers who worked 684.5 hours in FY2022! A special thank you to Sasha Nyary, who updated and enhanced the history of the library on our website which had been written by Clair Tisdale. Friends of the New Gloucester Public Library: Our Friends group continued their long tradition of fundraising, volunteerism, and advocacy for the library. In FY2022, the Friends’ officers were President Kathleen Potter, Vice President Carol Gillis, Secretary Phoebe Hardesty, and Treasurer Annemarie Salzberg. The Friends maintain the library’s gardens and provide refreshments at and assist with programs. In June, the Friends hosted a book and bake sale at the Community Building. Funds donated by the Friends supported programs, collections, and park passes at the library. Many thanks for your generosity! In September, when mold was discovered in the basement, the library temporarily relocated to the New Gloucester Meetinghouse in order to continue to provide services to the community.
