Eastern Region Showcase Ride By Eileen Lafland
On Feb 25 th fourteen hardy souls on thirteen sleds with the temperature around 5 degrees left the Lincoln Snowhounds Clubhouse on their nicely groomed trails for an East ern Region Showcase ride. Lead by Lincoln Snow Hounds trailmaster, Paul Bolstridge his grandson Mat thew and his friend Tim along with MSA people Al Swett, Bob Flagg, Brad Barker, Marie Doucette, Beth and Roland Bowie and Eileen and Larry Lafland and Lincoln club mem bers Bob Jones,Terry Berube and Bill Lucas we headed for our first stop, Quad County Snowmobile Club. We left the Lincoln trails and entered Mattawamkeag’s trail system to meet groomer Barney Robichaud a week before his 100 th birthday out making the trail nice and smooth for every one. Thank you, Barney! We continued on and reached Quad County trails (again nice a smooth) and stopped at the club for a quick break and warm up. Thank you, Cheryl, for
leaving the door open so we could get inside for a pit stop. We continued on the Quad CountyTrails to the cookout they were having at the dam on Con nector Trail 105 at Sysladobsis Lake. The Temperature might have risen to 10 degrees when we reached there, and the roaring fire was a popular spot! Quad County SC members were cooking hot dogs in an old fireplace at the site for all who stopped and only asked for a donation. Our ride leader Paul got everyone moving again and off we went back towards Lincoln. This time we entered Lee Mogul Pounders trail system (also nice and smooth) and stopped at the store in Lee for gas and another quick break. Our last leg of the ride took us back on to the trails maintained by Lincoln and back to the clubhouse. When all was said and done we hade traveled 100 miles in seven hours including the stops on well groomed trails and had a great day.
A HUGE SHOUT OUT goes to the Lincoln Snow Hounds, Mattawam keag Road Runners, Quad County Snowmobile Club and the Lee Mogul Pounders for making the trails smooth and our ride such a success. Also, a big way to go to Marie Dou cette who rode double ALL DAY with Brad Barker on an older sled It was Marie’s first hundred mile ride ever and she did it on a day with cold tem peratures and only one stop that was indoors! She was thankful Lincoln had the fireplace going when we got back there. We ended the day with the February MSA directors meeting at the Lincoln club. They served lasagna, salad, garlic bread and dessert to all that attended. MSA’s regular monthly meeting agenda was presented. It was a good way to end a great day of riding. MANY, MANY THANKS to all the clubs and people that made this ride possible .
