CHEBEAGUE TRANSPORTATION COMPANY News from CTC! Preparing for Summer! The good weather seems to have finally arrived and so have many of our sea sonal residents. Welcome back! propane can be carried on either the bus or ferry . For questions on other prohibited cargo, please call our office.

Summer Office Hours Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm

Service Limitations from Route One Like many other businesses, CTC has been impacted in many ways from the Covid 19 pandemic. One of the biggest impacts has been the increased difficulty in hiring employees, especially bus drivers. We are fortunate that we have an extremely dedicated group of drivers who know how important our service is to the community. Because of this, to date, we have only had to cancel a single trip due to lack of staffing resulting from the pandemic—something we are extremely proud of. Because of the limited num ber of bus drivers, we have some drivers who are li censed only to operate our small bus. While this is not ideal (we are doing our very best to have all our drivers licensed to drive the big buses ASAP), we are grateful that we can keep the service running! With the small bus being used more frequently, it is more important than ever for people to make sure that, if they have large amounts of freight or passen gers, that they drop off at Cousins Island prior to park ing at Route One. We also ask that people have patience if second trips are necessary. Most importantly, please thank our employees who have continued to show up and provide this essential service for our community!

Help Wanted! CTC is looking to fill the following positions im mediately! Part-time and fill-in bus drivers . Candidates must have a valid Class B CDL with a passenger endorse ment. Shifts are available that will accommodate Island residents. CTC offers competitive pay and benefits. If you are interested, contact our office, or apply online. If you know someone who might be interested, please help us spread the word. We are only as good as the crew we have working with us. Come join this great team! Independence available for Charter! We are excited to be able to once again to offer our vessel for charter! Whether you have an event to celebrate, a destination to get to, or a group that would enjoy a cruise around the bay, we’d love to have you aboard! See our website www.ctcferry.org or contact our office for details.

This summer, CTC will continue to operate with many of the procedures in place during the past two years. Tickets must be purchased in advance, either at our online store (www.ctcferry.org) or by calling our office. Tickets will be collected prior to boarding the ferry. You must have a ticket or have pur chased a ticket prior to boarding. Please wait at the top of the ramp for the crew to welcome you to board. But some things never change. Sum mer on Chebeague means Passengers AND Freight. When you have a large amount of freight or luggage, please either use Casco Bay Lines’ very con venient freight service (www.cascobaylines.com) or deliver your freight and passengers directly to the Cousins Island wharf in your own vehicle before parking at the Route 1 lot and catching the bus. Our busses have extremely limited room for freight and, due to bus driver shortages, we often must utilize a small bus with limited capacity for passengers and cargo. (See the notice to the left.) Re member, DOT and USCG requirements restrict hazardous materials we can carry. Absolutely no gasoline or

We welcome pets on our busses and ferries. Please remember they are re quired to have tickets, too! Also, please make sure dogs remain under control, on a leash and not on the seats on ei ther the buses or the ferries. We’ve had some close calls with excited dogs near ly knocking over small children… not something anyone wants to happen! Our bus drivers and captains are ex pected to leave on schedule. Please plan accordingly to arrive with plenty of time for unloading and parking. Use caution when driving to the Stone Wharf, our parking lots and to the pier on Cousins Island. These are all very congested places with lots of pedestri ans, children, and traffic. Once on the pier, please stand back from the ramp to allow disembarking passengers room to get by. The boat crew will load freight and call people with bicycles down first. We are excited to see everyone! We wish everyone a safe and happy sum mer!

We continue to do our very best at CTC to keep the cost of the service as low as possible. Since the early 2000s, our fare costs have remained well below inflation, effectively meaning that it is cheaper to ride the ferry now than it was in 20 years ago. We recently have seen large operational cost increases. This includes big labor and material costs hikes, along with huge fuel cost increases. Unfortunately, this rising cost of running our operations makes it necessary to implement a few fare increases. Beginning June 15, the cost of a Resident/Parking permit holder 10 ride pass (green book) will be $42, and the cost of a ten-ride pass (red book) will be $63. Additionally, the cost of daily parking at Cousins Island will be $25. All other fares re main unchanged. Fee Changes Effective June 15, 2022

Thank you!

Happy Birthday! Jack Uminski—6/4 Peter Blake—6/12 John Wilkinson– 6/12

Upcoming services and series: Did you know? Pentecost (June 5th!) marks the end of the Easter Season. It has its roots in the Jewish celebration of the wheat harvest (Shavuot). The Book of Acts recounts how the early followers of Jesus received the gift of the Holy Spirit, which enabled them to speak in the languages of all the Jewish peoples who had gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the Festival of Shavuot. In the Christian year, Pentecost launches the church into “Ordinary Time” (the final season of the year). The purpose of this season is to support new disciples and the whole congregation in living out the gifts and callings discerned during the Easter Season and commissioned on the Day of Pentecost. Sunay, June 12 th – Following worship, our Church Council meeting begins at noon. Zoom link can be found at our website, or meet in-person at the Parish House. All are welcome! SAVE THE DATE! Sacred Ground – Conversations about Race The Sacred Ground program uses discussion groups (6-9 participants and two trained facilitators) that meet for 90 minutes every three weeks over the course of ten sessions. During this time they watch and discuss films exploring the history and impact of race and racism in American society. This past winter, St. Paul’s launched six groups, including nearly 50 participants from different backgrounds. These groups have been so well-received that they are opening up additional groups this summer and fall. St. Paul’s is seeking participants from across the area and hope you will join in! Chebeague Island 4 th of July Parade Theme It’s almost that time again…The annual 4 th of July parade! The theme this year is “Superheroes.” Start thinking about how you might create a float, decorate a bike, or put together a costume to reflect SUPERHEROES. We certainly have enough superheroes in our community; one of our favorites, Gail Jenkins, will be this year’s Parade Grand Marshal! Batman, Superman, Dredgeman? We can’t wait to see what you come up with! Muster at the Inn at 11:00 am, and the parade begins at 11:30 am.

SAVE THE DATES! MacBeth 2022 Concert Series All concerts held at the Chebeague Community Church unless otherwise noted* Friday, June 24—7:30 p.m. New York Voices This two-time Grammy Award winning jazz vocal ensemble celebrates its 31 st anniversary of delivering performances with imaginative flair. " New York Voices lives up to its reputation as the most exciting vocal ensemble in current jazz...to collect such quality voices in one group is rare enough, yet the real trick of New York Voices is how well they mesh..." raves the BOSTON HERALD. Whether singing jazz, pop or classical tunes, their arrangements and vocals are airtight, and the joy in their music is palpable. Native son, baritone Tyler Putnam , and his mezzo-soprano wife, Sarah Nordin , command the stage with world class voices that can best be described as nothing less than celestial as they allow us to relive the golden era of Broadway, as well as their renditions of memorable arias from favorite operatic works. They may even find time for a little dancing to add action to their otherwise blissful performances. Saturday, July 9—2:00 p.m. Halcyon String Quartet- “Burt Dow, Deep Water Man” The beloved children’s story will feature live music, narration and projections of Robert Mc Closkey’s iconic illustrations. The show includes Halcyon’s arrangements of musical favorites such as “Beyond the Sea,” “Octopus’s Garden” and “Down by the Bay.” It celebrates working waterfronts and our sea-faring past through children’s literature and storytelling. Suitable for all ages! An ice cream social will follow the performance.
