The Second Eastern Region Showcase Ride Did Happen! By: Eileen Lafland
O n Saturday February 12th approximately twenty sleds gathered at the Northern Timber Cruisers in Millinocket for the 2nd Eastern Region Showcase ride. The weather didn’t look good the night before as rain was forecast, but it cleared out and we were able to leave close to our designated start time. Ride leader Larry took the group from the Northern Timber Cruisers clubhouse on to trails groomed by NEOC, East Branch Sno-Rovers, Jo- Mary Riders, Milo and Brownville snowmobile clubs for a 116-mile ride. The ride started out going west on ITS 85, south on ITS Connector 114, east on Its Connector 109, south in ITS 83, north on ITS Connector 111. We stopped for lunch and after lunch it continued on ITS Connector 111 to the crossover trail, then east on Its Connector 109 to the Parkway, to ITS 85/86 east back to the Timber Cruisers. We went to Wildwoods in Brownville for lunch where owner Cheri Brackett held a drawing for a gift certificate for us.
As the day went on, the temperatures climbed and made the trails soft and the water crossing at Whitehouse Landing was a little interesting but everyone did fine. We took the Upper Crossover trail from ITS Connector 111 over to ITS Connector 109 on to the Jo-Mary Riders trail system and saw some spectacular views of Mount Katahdin. Over all the day went well and we are already looking for a new area to ride in for next year. Thank you to Larry for leading, everyone who came with us, to Cheri at Wildwoods for the gift certificate and to all the clubs that groomed the trails we used. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate it was still a great day! We rode with people we don’t normally ride with, showed some people a different part of Maine and “showcased” the Katahdin region. What more could we have asked for? Stay tuned for next year’s ride !!
