How I Got Here

The desire to see puffins was what brought Katie Urich to Chebeague Island last spring. Thank goodness for puffins! Katie was living in southeast Pennsylvania and wanted a change. She was eager to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and live closer to nature. As she researched where to see puffins and the geography of Maine, she stumbled upon Chebeague Island; its beauty, and its strong community. Katie has a fascinating resume: she was a Children’s Librarian; an Americorps volunteer in Central Florida; and an English language teacher in Peru. Katie also put her Theater degree to work by teaching drama to children and adults and performing as a jazz vocalist. Katie was hired by the Chebeague Island Recreation Center to work at the Kids’ Place as an Assistant Preschool Teacher. She finds the children of Chebeague to be particularly observant and aware of their surroundings, as well as delightfully well-adjusted.
