The generosity of the townspeople of Hollis truly amazes me. The 2020 Hollis Christmas Fund was successful in meeting our needs this year because of the outpouring of support from the citizens of this great community. “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” -Helen Keller In years past the committee has applied for non-municipal grants to aide with the funding of this program. After a couple of years of steady increases of support, we decided to give the 2020 season a go without applying for any grants. Shortly after this decision was made the nation was hit with the Covid-19 pandemic. None of us knew how this would affect our program. Would we have an increased need for assistance? Would people be able to give to this program? I am happy to report that this did not deter our residents during the season of giving. 51 Hollis children were recipients of your generosity. 25 families requested assistance this year, a decrease from 27 families last season. The giving trees are proving to be widely accepted by many who wish to shop for children’s toys, games and clothing. Many people prefer to give monetary donations. This gives our secret shoppers an opportunity to head out and shop for warm clothes, boots and jackets. Giving trees were set up at Your Country Store and Salmon Falls River Tap & Grill. These businesses deserve a big round of applause for their continued willingness to assist with this project. There was also a giving tree outside at Town Hall. Many people chose to grab a tag from this tree during the “Deck the Hauls” light parade sponsored by the Rec Department. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful residents, businesses and organizations that have supported the Hollis Christmas Fund. This would not be possible without a cumulative effort. Thank you All.
