The CIHS is hard at work on the upcoming exhibit: Growing Up on Chebeague. This is Chebeague’s con- tribution to Maine’s Bicentennial Cele- bration. We are having so much fun!

Although we can’t be sure right now when we will open because of the virus, we will be ready when that time comes! The photos and artifacts that have been shared tell the story of a community that has valued its children and has instilled a sense of place over the

generations from the CivilWar to today. The sea, shore, woods, and fields of Chebeague are the backdrops for seasonal activities that showcase creative play! www.chebeaguehistory.com

The evening’s lecture will be given by Michael Porter on the history of American mapmaking, using historical maps of Chebeague as examples!

The Recompense Fund

The Recompense Fund Board is keenly aware of the significant disruptions in our lives, the scope of which will likely be unparalleled in our lifetime. We understand the needs of our island nonprofits may be changing dramatically, and that some organizations may need to re-think both long- and short-term plans. Key RF Board members are aiding the Town’s Covid-19 task force. Others are stepping up to enhance our island’s communication channels. Our Board members offer “extended arms” in this hour of need, and each of us would welcome any calls for support.

The Recompense Fund Board, in light of Covid-19’s impact on island nonprofits, acted April 13 to relax the expenditure requirements of previously granted, unexpended RF funds to any Chebeague nonprofit. This includes allowing the use of said funds for operating purposes as authorized by any recipient’s Board of Directors. Recompense also would like to remind you of the availability of emergency $500 grants submitted by a letter of need. Additionally, early grant applications are welcomed now and due by May 15 with final grant applications due May 31 st .
