assistance from Loon ConservationAssociates has been submitted. This 2 nd year of the program will allow for more intensive training of returning Rangers, some of whom will be asked to lead teams of newer Rangers, reducing the consultant costs for future years. It will also support basic training for a few more new Rangers. 2020 Spring Loonacy (Continued)… 1) A “Loon Cam” we plan to install at one or two of our nest sites. We will be able to monitor daily activity, capture evidence of predation, and hopefully witness the birth of brand-new chicks. 2) An invitation to present a segment about loons to a GNG Elementary School classroom late in the school year. Engaging and educating our younger generation is what we hope helps to instill lifelong love and protection of the environment and nature. Ranger Training Class 2020 will be in early June. If you love these creatures as we do and can commit to a consistent 1-3 hours weekly throughout the breeding season (late May to August) please reach out to Sharon 207-632-0075 for a spot in the next class. The interest and best practices of our lake members and guests contribute greatly to a lake that can be shared by all - the loons and mankind. Observing headway speeds (especially near nest sites/islands), protecting nesting pairs by complying with “No Trespass” and/or “Loon Sanctuary” marked sites, and keeping speeds down while watching for swimming loons (especially during the period when new chicks are emerging – mid June to early August), are the simple things that we can all do to keep our loons safe. The popularity of wake boats is evident and should be enjoyed. Unfortunately, those wakes travel without losing depth for great distances causing washout and shore erosion, so we ask that you keep wakeboarding activity well away from any shoreline – island or mainland. If you are a Face Book user you will find updates at “Little Sebago Loon Watch”. You can also find news at www.littlesebagolakeassociation.com . Looking forward to seeing you and our feathered friends back on the lake soon.
