Community Matters

The Chebeague Island Recreation Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Auffant as Executive Director. Steve has already started working on all those Rec Center activities that help make summer on Chebeague fun for all ages – and has great ideas for some new ones too! Steve has an extensive background in marketing and business management. He started working in the family business right after high school and continued there after getting his B.S. in Marketing from the University of New Haven in Connecticut. He took what was a family business focusing on printing and promotional materials and grew it into a nationwide, employee owned company, known as American

Solutions, which now includes commercial furniture and window blinds. His experience in marketing and personal management will help strengthen the Rec Center’s management team as they work to continue providing activities for all ages. The Auffant family started coming to Chebeague in 1974. Steve, his parents, and his two sisters rented a house in the East end for many summers. During one of those summers he brought his girlfriend, Christine, to Chebeague and the rest is history. Steve, Christine and their boys, Ryan and Jason continued to come to Chebeague and in 2006 bought a home in the East end. The family moved here year-round in 2016. You have probably seen Jason at the library – he has worked there as a volunteer, and then as an employee, for the last 13 years! Ryan worked summers for Chebeague Sand and Gravel while attending college. And that girl friend Christine, now wife and mother, is our Deputy Town Clerk! Please stop in the Rec Center and say hello to Steve! Check out all the activities that are available this summer and watch for great new things happening under Steve’s creative management.
