Thank You Letters

At a funeral many years ago someone from away asked how many families were on the island in the winter. The answer was “just one!” How true that still is! I returned from a trip with two suitcases and my wagon with two full Bean bags in it. It could not have been a lower tide. People just appeared and carried all my belongings down to the Cousins Island float and up again when we got to Chebeague.

Summer 2019 Beginning on July 02, 2019

Will be open Tuesdays 9:30am-12 noon & 7:00pm-8:00 pm and Thursdays 9-11 am (new extra hours!)

Thank you to “my family” Kitty Freeman

The family of Dick Calder sends their love and thank you to all our friends and family everywhere. Dick passed away peacefully on May 6th and we all know he is watching over us while he cuts that next tree with his chain saw or runs that 1948N Ford Tractor through another field. He really loved his work and when he had to stop due to failing health he was unhappy but never stopped joking around or telling one of his stories. Dick & I, Leanne, Milt, Tom and Kevin are blessed to have so many people we truly call friends who have been so supportive over the years and continue to help through this difficult time. We think we greeted about 350 people in all between the visiting hours at Lindquist and the funeral service at our beloved church. Each place was filled to overflowing. The flowers were gorgeous and brought back to my home at the Island Commons for all to enjoy. Thank you for remembering Dick with your monetary gifts to the Steven Ross Scholarship Fund and the Island Commons. As many of you know, Dick and I moved to the Commons back in March and immediately felt like our home away from home. The level of care and compassion by the staff exceeds anything our family expected. We believe it’s impossible to name everyone we would like to thank and hopefully will not miss any group! A heartfelt thanks to David and Amanda Campbell for getting Dick’s beloved tractor to the church for the service. To Melissa and Ben Yosua-Davis for helping us plan everything, you truly understood exactly what we wanted to do, which was to celebrate his life. To the Chebeague Fire Department for their many contributions, the sandwiches, flag ceremony and presenting Dick’s lifetime medals. Dick was so proud of his fire department days. To the Cumberland Fire Department for their bouquet of flowers. To the “hundreds” of people who worked endlessly in the kitchen, setting up the wonderful display of food, the major clean-up and to all the cooks who provided so many delicious dishes. To the Chebeague Transportation Company for providing parking & boat transportation for our family and friends. To the Chebeague Island School and Kevin Wentworth for moving people to and from boats with the school bus. To Tiffany Calder and Laura Hamilton for lighting the candles, Boop loved you both so much. To Doug Ross, Lindy Smith, Chris Towle and Mark Dyer for their role as ushers. To the Brenton’s for just everything. To all the folks who stood and told stories and gave speeches which helped keep his service a real celebration. To everyone who has sent cards, called and stopped by to visit. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all, Dianne and family
