Registrar of Voters 07/01/2016 – 06/30/2017
The Registrar of Voters and Deputy Registrars had a busy year maintaining voter registration records, certifying petitions, attending training sessions and servicing elections. This year because of a Presidential Election, the Town offered to be opened on two Saturdays in October to accommodate new and absentee voters. Then, on November 8, 2016, out of 6,125 registered voters, there were 3,133 ballots cast in person and 1,765 absentee ballots making the 4,898 total ballots cast to equal a 79.97% Voter Turn-out. In December, several of us were able to be a part of the State’s Recount, Question 1 Process, in Augusta and we found it to be a very interesting and educational experience. There was a Special Town Meeting on December 14, 2016 to approve several articles. Two of the articles will have money coming from the Undesignated Surplus to cover their expenses; Davis Road is now a Town owned and maintained road; and an ordinance entitled “MoratoriumOrdinance Regarding Retail Business Establishments in the Village District” will be enacted for six months. On June 1 st , 2017, SAD#6 held its School Budget Meeting/Vote at the middle school. All of the articles were approved and now will appear on the June 13, 2017 District Budget Validation Referendum Ballot. Just 601 votes, out of 6,323 voters, were cast on June 13’s election. This makes the Voter Turnout to be 9.5%. On Saturday, June 17, 2017, The Annual Town Meeting was held to finish voting on town affairs. It was a good showing of about 100 voters. Article 3 in the Annual Report was passed over and will be placed in the November 2017 election. A friendly reminder: there are two Tuesday election days, held in June and November, as well as Town Meetings. Please plan on voting!! Respectively submitted,
Ruth M. Scheibenpflug Registrar
