LSLA $500.00 SCHOLARSHIPS
After having an intellectually rewarding and stimulating first semester, I am more excited than ever to return to Pitzer to finish my first-year. Learning in a deeply thoughtful and conscientious community in Southern California has been a truly amazing experience. During my time at Pitzer I have been able to create many beautiful friendships, learn from my peers and teachers, challenge myself with engaging and thought-provoking material, and explore the new environment around me. I am enrolled in Spanish, Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology, Sociology and its View of the World, and Introduction to Psychology. I am currently part of a club which teaches elementary students twice a week about the environment, part of a club basketball team, an intern for a program called “Girls Fly” which involves teaching at Compton High school, a member of a food recovery program which donates leftover cafeteria food to the nearby salvation army, a member of Pitzer Outdoor Activities, and I am hoping to begin working for the Writing Center this spring. Because of these vast opportunities that I have, I am appreciative of this scholarship given to me. -Izzy DeTroy Izzy DeTroy

Tara Carroll My name is Tara Carroll, and I would like to thank the Little Sebago Lake Association for helping to fund my education this semester at Green Mountain College. At this small school, the entire community focuses on living as sustainably as possible. As an applied environmental science major with an adventure education minor, I find a strong relation between human connection to the outdoors and education of natural sciences to be crucial at this time in history. I have applied to an internship this summer, working on the restoration of Lake Champlain, where I hope to learn more about lake ecosystems. I spend most of my free time hiking and climbing, and I also love to learn new things that I can implement in my life that help to create a more sustainable world. I can’t wait to pursue a career that allows me to spend as much time as possible outdoors, while positively contributing to the future of the planet. Thank you again for the generous support! -Tara Carroll
