News from the Chebeague Island School

This school year seems to be flying by. The holiday season is just around the corner. The recent no-school days caused by the electricity loss set the normal schedule back a bit, but we are progressing ever forward. It has been a busy learning year, with many great activities and classes. Some special highlights of the year so far are as follows: September 11 K–5 Outdoor experiential learning day at Cow Island September 22 PreK–5 Field trip to Bennetts Cove for beach clean up October 5 & 6 Teachers’ Conference days at the Island Institute in Belfast October 16 PreK–5 Melon Monday Experiments with garden watermelons October 20 PreK–5 Fire safety presentations by Ginny and Joe Ballard October 25 K–5 Health screenings by the school nurse November 9 Teachers’ Workshop day aligning report cards to CIS learning targets November 17 PreK–5 Harvest Walk and breakfast November 21 PreK–5 Thanksgiving celebrated with Island Commons Some upcoming dates to note are as follows: December 13 Grade 5 Field trip to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute December 19 PreK–5 Holiday concert at the Hall December 25–January 1 PreK–5 Winter break—no school On behalf of the CISD School Committee and our entire school family, I would like to thank Chebeague Island residents for voting for the school renovation. The November 7 turnout from the community was overwhelming, and everyone at the school sends out their sincerest thanks for the support shown to this needed project.
